You can use either first scenario or second scenario for doing that (depending on your router model and your topology).

First one is for older model routers that don't have a dedicated AP mode implemented.

The second one is for the newer router models that have the AP mode implemented.

You can use first scenario on all router models in cases when you want to keep the full feature set of the device like OneMesh, etc.

This list can show you which features are unavailable when you use the second scenario.
