Maybe the firmware you updated is NOT for this router V3.

Hi, I have the same problem. Just bought the TD-W8961ND Ver 3.0 with Firmware 3.0.0 Build 120524 Rel.05221.
It was sealed and not opened.

I went to the firmware page, right away showing ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE DUE TO... ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE DUE TO...

Can't even upload any firmware. Tried the latest Chrome and IE same issue.
Help I don't wanna send it back it is such a hassle and far.

I have the same issue when I go to the firmware link it shows http://192.168.1.1/rpFWUpload.html
I'm assuming this is a bad link in that firmware build.
Do you have the correct link maybe I can get a proper firmware upload page and flash a new firmware.
I don't want to go replace it because it is a long drive.

Found the reason for this problem. This error occurs if you try to upgrade the router firmware over wifi. if you try doing it by connecting a cable directly to the router it works.

I brought a brand new router about 10 days back. While there are other issues related to coverage and connectivity with this device, the firmware page simply refuses to work.

Maintenance --> Firmware --> ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE DUE TO... ERROR: FAIL TO UPDATE DUE TO...

So now, I cannot save the config file locally....

Things I tried :
- Resetting the device and no configuration, issue persists.
- Configuring device without using the CD, but using the web wizard, issue persists. I'm able to connect to the internet (of course intermittently) but the firmware page doesn't work.

@vasanthm : I was never able to see the firmware page, so upgrading the firmware over wifi is out of question.
@navynmr : I agree. There are ways to tweak factory default settings using certain commands but I'm not sure if TP-Link will share that publicly.

After searching firmware for TD-W8951ND on TP-LINK website, I find that 120522 firmware is the newest one for TD-W8951ND_V5.
So your TD-W8951ND is V5 and the current firmware on the modem is 120522, right? If yes, there is no need to upgrade it.
BTW, which firmware are you trying to upgrade?
