Adapter just doesn't work, a bunch of problems
I bought a pair of these adapters since we moved house and the router is downstairs.
I've had nothing but problems with them since day 1. Sometimes they work for a few days, then I go through days or weeks of the following:
- USB device just disconnects, I have to pull it out and put it back in to fix
- Zero bars for signal, fails to connect
- Connects but no internet
- Disconnect and reconnect loop
- Under network load, the USB device crashes
I am on BT FTTP 900 with a BT Smarthub. Wifi Signal is good as the house is small, the router is one floor directly below me and it's a new build, so no concrete/metal between floors.
This happens on both adapters. Both machines are running Windows 10 with the latest updates.
I've tested the connection using an older TP-Link 2.4ghz adapter I've had for about 8 years. Works perfectly fine.
No other devices have issues connecting to WiFi. Only machines using this adapter.
So, is this adapter just rubbish or what? I see there has not been a driver update since 2018 but that's to be expected, since they are using a common interface.
If I can't get this fixed, I am probably going to contact Amazon for a refund, as I am not interested in warranty replacements or alternatives. I'll just run cables.
