@TP-Link hi there - please help
At the start of this thread you let us know the Beta firmware was available and provided a link to it:
https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202012/20201210/RE450_V3_201209.zip
HOWEVER
I just checked your RE450 download page at the following location https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/re450/v3/#Firmware and the latest version that shows is:
https://static.tp-link.com/2021/202101/20210106/RE450_v3_201203.zip
This was posted after your announcement here, but appears to relate to an older date 20/12/03 vs. 20/12/09.
Please can you tell us as soon as possible which is the more stable of these two variants and which we should have installed on our devices.
Many thanks.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have followed the following steps for my Hardware version RE450 v3.0
Downloaded firmware update from https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/re450/v3/#Firmware
Used ethernet connection direct to RE450 extender
Updated firmware using this package re450v3_un-up-ver1-0-2-P1[20201203-rel80349] (as downloaded)
Used the reset button on the device
Used the reboot button on the interface
This is the firmware version reported from the management interface: 1.0.2 Build 20201203 Rel. 80349(6985/8575)
YET I am STILL getting the weak security issue on my iOS / iPadOS devices
To ease troubleshooting, I have labelled the two extender SSIDs with _EXT2 and _EXT5 (to further separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz)
From the Mac terminal ./airport -s command you can see the output below.
Clearly, it seems that as of this firmware update, the 2.4ghz extended network is no longer including TKIP. But, the 5ghz network is still giving TKIP.
SSID | BSSID | RSSI | CHANNEL | HT | CC | SECURITY (auth/unicast/group) |
Host | 80:72:15:6c:8e:b2 | -73 | 6 | Y | -- | WPA2(PSK/AES/AES) |
Host_EXT2 | d8:07:b6:dd:fe:58 | -48 | 6 | Y | -- | WPA2(PSK/AES/AES) |
Host_EXT5 | d8:07:b6:dd:fe:59 | -55 | 36 | Y | -- | WPA2(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP) |
Host | 80:72:15:6c:8e:b5 | -64 | 36 | Y | GB | WPA2(PSK/AES/AES) |
I have attached the Host Network and Extended Network settings screens for reference also.
Please can you advise if this can be fixed in the next 28 days, otherwise I will return the kit as defective where I bought it.
Side note, it would be more helpful if you gave the user the choice of security encryption so that we can forcibly disable TKIP. I have no devices reliant on this legacy encryption. Inclined to return just based on this issue.

@b737 hi, I have now returned mine but before doing so the latest firmware did solve the weak security issues on my V3 for us.
You may have done this but to get the latest firmware to show it may be worth setting up the devices from scratch so going through the whole setup again. I also cleared my browser cache in case that helps. Either way the version number did update and show the new version for me. Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback!
We are very interested in your finding and would like to forward your case to the senior engineers.
Please have a check of your email box later.
At the same time, have you tried to reset the RE450 and set it up from the scratch via web UI, not via Tether APP?
Then delete the previous profile on the IOS devices and connect it again?
By the way, may I know the model number of your main router?
How about the operating system of your IOS devices?
Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link and the v2 model that also suffers from these problems , not to mention the other problems it already has with frequent disconnections of the connection wi-fi .... abandoned it ? even v1 model has been updated and v2 so far nothing. I am very sorry for the purchase of this model, its advertising is amazing but the device is horrible and it is abandoned by TP-Link.... Wi-Fi disconnection is frequent... Poor security... TKIP... etc

@Andrsouzaaa Hello,
RE450 has fixed the weak security issue since 202009XX firmware, please confirm your RE450 V2 is running the latest firmware:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re450/v2/#Firmware
Make sure main router is on WPA2-PSK (AES) or ios devices does not show' weak security' when connected to main router
Here is a related guide to check security type on router:
Why my iOS14 warning weak security when I connect to TP-Link Wi-Fi
You may need to factory reset range extender and reinstall RE from Web page after router is on WPA-PSK (AES)
Reset RE: with RE powered on, use a pin to push the reset hole for 10 secs.
How to log into the web management page of the range extender (new logo)?
