archer c9 V1 firmware
archer c9 V1 firmware
I downloaded and upgraded the firmware Build 20201118 Rel. 42895....
I know the wesite states:
New Features/Enhancement:
Enhance device security.
Only for Archer C9(US).
Can you elaborate or where I can get the information on new features/enhancement?
Dos this BETA firmware support this device on the app Tether?
Thank You

Hello, thanks for your concerning.
Just as the release note states, this firmware enhances device security by deploying new software codes.

@racoonlodge I thought the same thing, but on closer inspection that first line is a title, basically saying "Here's the New Features/Enhancement: Enhance device security (Only for Archer C9(US)"

@Kevin_Z Quite a bit seems to have changed in this 2020 release over 2018 e.g. IPTV configuration, Advanced routing? Parental controls etc. Also noticed region is now configurable. I struggled to get IPTV to work (VLAN ID 101) so I have regressed back to 2018. I would be interested to know what the default VLAN parameter was in the 2018 version as this is non-visible.
On a positive note, I thought the 2020 version connected allot quicker.
Btw. I am in Europe (UK), but have been running (US) 2018 for a few years now as the EU version no longer seems to be maintained and our channel ranges are now aligned.
Interested to hear other experiences and feedback.

Hello, do you mean you can set up IPTV successfully on the older 2018 firmware but failed to make the IPTV work on the newer 2020 version? May I know who is the IPTV provider? Does it require VLAN 101 on the router?
Just out of curiosity, how did you install the US firmware on the EU hardware? Generally, this is not allowed, it may ruin the router and void the warranty.

@Kevin_Z My ISP is Plusnet and I typically use BBC Iplayer. In the 20180125 build there is not a specific IPTV screen but under LAN there is a section that states:
Note: IGMP(Internet Group Management Protocol) works for IPTV multicast stream. The device supports both IGMP proxy with enabled/disabled option and IGMP snooping. |
It is not possible to specify a VLAN ID in the 2018 version but Plusnet and BBC Iplayer work fine with it.
Happy to do some further testing for the Developer if required. |

Quite an old version, so I guess there was no limitation for the firmware upgrade on that version, that's why you can upgrade the US firmware. Are you able to downgrade to the previous 20180125 version since it is working fine with the BBC Iplayer? We actually agree with you that this Archer C9 must be out of warranty, so I think it might not be able to be replaced with the local office, sorry about that.

@Kevin_Z It would have been nice if it was marked as Beta software. The background is annoying.

@kheller2 Totally agree with you. I didn't realize this firmware is beta and surprised seeing TP-LINK Beta in background. Hope new released version coming soon.

Thanks for reminding, we will feedback this to the R&D team, and ask them to evaluate then release an official version.

I see the size of the 'Beta' changed from 14.77 mb to 15.19 mb. Any update on this??
Very confusing......
