Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

I noticed my ISP dropping internet connectivity occasionally. For home network user, that might look like Deco issue. I spotted one such drop today, looked at logs and can share log lines to look at.

My Deco network diagram is very simple: Main Deco M9 connected by Ethernet cable to Hitron CODA cable modem, satellite M9 Deco connected wirelessly to Main Deco, with strong 5GHz and 2.4Ghz signal between them. They run in AP mode.

You can login to M9 Deco using its IP address, with browser, and can access logs there, as well as can save them on local disk. Very convenient.

At about 10:22 my local time I noticed I lost Internet for a brief moment. Unfortunately, I was far from Deco units so I can't tell if they went red.

Main Deco logs show that (not relevant log lines removed):

Mon Nov  2 10:22:12 2020 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: ONLINE(0x0) -> OFFLINE(0x1)

...

Mon Nov  2 10:22:12 2020 user.notice smartip: [lan]  AP mode AP online status changed(ONLINE --> OFFLINE).

...

Mon Nov  2 10:22:42 2020 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: OFFLINE(0x1) -> ONLINE(0x0)

Same time, Satellite Deco logs:

Mon Nov  2 10:22:12 2020 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: ONLINE(0x0) -> OFFLINE(0x1)

...

Mon Nov  2 10:22:42 2020 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: OFFLINE(0x1) -> ONLINE(0x0)

About fifteen minutes later I logged to my Hitron CODA cable modem and saw this:

Which confirms that it were ISP connectivity drop, reflected in Deco logs and Hitron modem status.

Hopefully, this information would be helpful for someone who is troubleshooting their Deco mesh.

@Alexandre. It seems that I have the same problem with my Deco M4R, I lost internet connection several times during the day for a coupel of minutes, but devices remain conected to de Deco, which still have green light.

My network diagram is  simple: Main Deco M4 (as a router) by Ethernet cable to cable modem, satellite M4 Deco (as AP) connected wirelessly to Main Deco.

I tried swithing off the satellite, but the internet connection is lost ramdomly.

I also tried swithing beetween Decos, but the but the internet connection is lost ramdomly.

I tried without the Decos, connectin directly with a ethernet cable to the modem, internet connection was stable, I talket with my ISP provider whot told me that they do no have any problem in the service, that it should be in my DECO.

This is the log at the moment of losting internet connection:

Re:Internet disconnects - whose fault is it? (with logs)

@ADiaz

If I read this log correctly, your Internet connection works through PPPoE. You also mentioned you have modem from your ISP. What about ISP router, do they not provide router, too?

If they do, the easiest troubleshooting route would be to run your home network on ISP provided modem+router and see if problem still exists.

>I talked with my ISP provider whot told me that they do no have any problem in the service, that it should be in my DECO.

In my case, and I have cable modem/router Hitron CODA, the problem was eventually found in TV cable coming to my house. It cracked in one place, they replaced it and I've got my stable Internet back.

My ISP have not seen the problem with their overall service, and they had no complains from my neighbours, the issue was limited to my house only.

------------------------------------------------

Before calling ISP, I collected stats on how frequently disconnects happen. One should expect very occasional disconnect happen at night, as a result of maintenance, or even during the day if technician worked on someone's else problem in your area and momentarily knocked down your Internet in the process.

What you shouldn't see is multiple disconnects, day and night, every day.

Deco has logs to tell you when it loses connection and what it connects back. Collect stats for few days before calling Support, just write down time and duration of downtime every time it happens.

When talking to ISP, if they are curious how did you collect data on Internet outages, tell them you have a system that checks Internet connection every few minutes, by sending DNS queries and pinging Internet hosts.

That is technically true, because this is what Deco does and saying it that way confuses Tech Support less, because they know how such tools work but might not be familiar with TP-Link Deco.

It'll help very much if ISP owns modem and router, because it is their bundle and it must work. No excuses.

If what you have is TV cable modem, ask them to check quality of signal. They should be able to do it remotely and must have done it as a first step in troubleshooting. Unless they dismissed you right away.

In my case, what they have found was enough to send a technician to my house to check cable outside it.

@Alexandre.

Provider insalled a optical fiber modem - router, we proved using the provider router without having interruption, the problem is that router has slow and has low range.

@ADiaz

You can connect Deco mesh in Access Point mode to ISP router. Disable WiFi on ISP router, use it as just wired networking router and use Deco to provide WiFi signal in your house.

That's what I did in mine.

@SanNL  Yes, I have connected Deco mesh in Access Point mode to ISP router. Disable WiFi on ISP router, so I am using it as just wired networking router and use Deco to provide WiFi signal in my house, but still I am loosing internet connections several times during the day for about 5 seconds each (the time that takes to connect again).

According to my my ISP provider there is no problem in their service...
