RE450 and Weak Security from IOS 14
RE450 and Weak Security from IOS 14
I recently updated to IOS 14.01.1 now anytime
i attempt to use one of my extender bands 2.4 or 5 GHZ I get the "Weak Security" warning. I have changed the security on my front end router and those are fixed. I used a Ethernet cable to connect to the extender and redecorated the Networks and restarted the router several times and I still get the weak security warning. Is WPA2/AES even an option on the extender? Will it or can it be added with a firmware upgrade abs of so when will that take place? I want to lock down my home network and o not want that warning sticking in my head any longer than it needs to

@DesignerGirl you're solution worked brilliantly! It is definitely the tether app that is causing all the problems. I completely agree, toss that poorly coded program in the trash and only use the web interface to set everything up!
Thank you so much for pointing out the problem and coming up with the perfect solution. I am very disappointed that TP-link can't come up with a solution to a very clearly defined problem, and charges consumers money for such a negligently designed product.

@Smells You're welcome, and I agree, they should at least pull the app from the App Store if they aren't going to fix it. Would save a whole lot of people a lot of hassle. Funny mine isn't marked "solution" when the company themselves now says not to use the thether app lol. Has worked for multiple people in multiple threads, that’s all I need. Just wanted to save someone else the goose chase headache that I went though for this. This should be noted in the Amazon reviews but of course those are manipulated so it isn't.

The latest Tether app supports synchronizing the security type from router, so you should not meet ' weak security' warning on IOS device after installing devices in the Tether app.
Please confirm your Tether app is up-to-date in APP store or Google Play.
' Weak security' on IOS devices has been fixed on the latest firmware of Range extenders. Please also confirm your RE is the on the latest firmware :

If still the same issue, may I know the version of your Tether app, and the model of and its IOS/ Android version of your phone? What is the firmware or Build number of your RE?

My tether app was fully up to date on a brand new, newest model iPhone, that goose chase told me it is garbage and multiple others have confirmed. Hence why I removed it. Problem solved. I will not be reinstalling your app every again, to reinstall another problem lol.
