Connection drops, reboot required, SEVERAL TP-Link routers

Region : Germany
Model : TL-WDR3600
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 120820
ISP : German university ISP
I have a big problem with several TP-Link routers (WDR3600, WR1043ND, WR741ND), always with the latest firmware and also with older ones. After a day or so, my internet & network connection will drop all of a sudden and all the routers need a reboot. There is no indication on what provoces these lock-ups. The routers can handle heavy traffic (bittorrent /w 100s of connections) but will stop working when browsing casually. The web-GUI will become unreachable. No pings to the outside are possible anymore, not even to direct IPs (8.8.8.8 for example). No pings to devices in the same network are possible either.
This is extremely annoying, as you might understand. Even more so when you consider that this never happens with alternative firmware like DD-WRT or OpenWRT, but since the wifi-performance of these firmwares is not as good as with the original, I'd really like to have a stable TP-Link-Firmware for ONCE.
I don't know if it has to do with my ISP (100 Mbit Down & Up, DHCP-Client).

I have WR1043ND with gargoyle and I'm very pleased with the radio and device stability.

There are many reasons that cause the wifi dropping problem. 1:Wi-Fi Radio Interference, like cordless phones, bluetooth devices, garage door openers and microwave etc.2.Other WIFI routers like your neighbours WIFI router.3.Network Driver or Firmware Upgrade Required for computers.4.Overloading / Overheating the Wireless Access Point.
So we need check whether other factors infect the wireless connections or not because it is not possible that all the router from TP-LINK have the same wireless dropping out problem. Change some settings on the TP-Link router to see if that helps or not. You can change the channel, channel width etc.

I would like to start with saying thx for the response, this is the reason why forums works, ppl who simply want to help others. Without you guys we could shut down the Internet.
Now to my problem with the wireless dropping connection and the solution.
I tried a number of changes and finally came down to simply resetting the router (again) and set it to 802.11b only and now it works like a charm.
Worth mentioning:
I already got a d-link wireless router in another room and they do not in any way mess with each other.
the cordless phone transmitter stands next to my tp-link router, no problems there either.
i have at least 5 neighbours close enough for me to scan their wifi lan, no problems there, i´m just keepingan eye on their channels.
As i don´t have (at this time) any comp that supports 802.11n i could have thought of this earlier but my guess was it didn´t matter that much annd that i could just aswell keep it in mixed mode.
this just proves me wrong and i hope this lesson can help someone else having the same problem.
Conclusion:
* This is a pretty nice router after all.
* I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cey35bBWXls
* We live we learn...then we install linux.

You should give it a go really, you don´t have to install it just run it from your dvd and see what you think about it.
If you like it you can install using an icon on the desktop, if you don´t like it just reboot your comp and you are back to your old os.
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
The version you want is called Linux mint 14 Nadia with Mate. Internet and all your peripherals will work from scratch.
As i said, we live we learn, it´s never too late to try something new.
Cheers
Ulf

Looks TP Link Routers are highly unstable. I have Archer A6 and extenders ; every 2nd day they fail and ten start normal working after few hours. Highly unpredictable.
