TL-WA860RE stops working every once in a while, and needs to be reset
Hi, I have a problem:
I recently bought a TL-WA860RE, that works really well, but every once in a while, it stops working (I can't access the tp extender site, and it just doesn't connect my phone to the internet anymore) and then I need to reset it. It's a little annoying, because when that happens I need to stop what I'm doing and reset the router, which does take some time. Could you help me with this?
Thank you.

Hi, sorry to hear that you have trouble with the product.
We would like to do some troubleshooting to identify the issue first.
When the issue happens, may I know the lights' status on the extender?
May I know if the extender and router have the same Wi-Fi name?
If so, can you change a different Wi-Fi name for the extender?
When the issue happens, please check if the main router is working well?
Since the extender extends the Wi-Fi from the main router, if the main router doesn't have the stable connection, the extender won't have the stable connection, either.
When the issue happens, you need to 'reset the router' to recover the connection of extender, right?
Please make sure if you need to reset it OR restart it by powering it off and on again.
BTW, may I know the frequency of the issue?
If all of your devices can't connect this extender?
Look forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!

Hi, thanks for your reply.
It's not happening right now so I don't know the lights' status but I will inform you as soon as possible. No, the extender does not have the same name as its source wifi. When this problem happens, my phone usually switches to the source wifi, which has low reception (because of the range) but still works. I tried pulling it off the plug and back in again, but I never used the on/off button so I don't know if ir qualifies. The frequency of this problem is variable, approximately once in two days. And yes, my devices can connect to the extender, but they just tell me there's no internet.
I will tell you the rest of the details the next time this happens.
Thanks for helping me!

Sure, it is OK!
When the issue happens again, please provide the below information for us:
1. the lights' status on the extender?
2. When the issue happens, please check if the main router is working well?
3. Please make sure if you need to reset it OR restart it by powering it off and on again.
4. The distance between the extender and the main router
5. The frequency of the issue?
6. Connect your PC to the extender's Wi-Fi and follow the instruction to check the IP address, default gateway on the PC. https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/838/
7. When and where did you buy the extender? When did the issue begin to happen?
Look forward to your reply.
Have a nice day!

@Solla-topee Hi, i have exactly the same problem.
The problem occurs every 24 hours or so and it can be fixed by pressing the wps button on the extender.
More specifically the extender has a problem optaining the ip address and I can't connect my phone or TV. The wifi and the power lights are steady green and the wps is black(off). I can connect normally from my router just not from the extender. The name of my extender is the same as my router with _EXT at the end. Is there a solution to permanently fix this problem?
Thank you in advance.

Good day.
Thank you for your time and patience.
May I know the model number of your wireless router?
Have you updated the TL-WA860RE to be the latest firmware:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/tl-wa860re/#Firmware
and if possible, please try to reserve the static IP address on the wireless router for TL-WA860RE;
Thank you very much.

I have absolutely same problem. Im using it as repeater via wifi. First it stopped to reconnect (freeze) every several days, but since several months it stops and freezes every day. Since 1 month it even stops every 6 or 10 hours ! Absolutely randomly.
I tried i 4-5 different routers. Lancom, Unitymedia and vodafone modem & router, TL-WDR4300 v1, etc...
The problem is definitely from side of 860RE.
I even reinstalled latest firmware from website.
Lights are sometimes red+green frozen or only green frozen(no blinking).
Currently using TL-WA860RE v2 20160411 Rel. 60484
Im out of warranty time.
Is it one those traps, like printers, that after warranty the device gets automatically broken cause of planned obsolescence ?
I guess, now im out of warranty and wont have any chance to use the repeater correctly more or get it repaired!!!!

Hi, thanks a lot for your time and patience.
Sorry for the delay and wish you a happy new year.
Have you tried to factory reset the 860RE?
--if yes and there is no improvement after reset, there is large possibility that there would be something wrong with it.
Since it is not working properly on the repeater mode, maybe you could put it on the access point mode to see whether it would work well or not.
Thank you very much and have a good day.
