Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Latest

Can someone tell me why this router with 4 antennas performs slower than my virgin media superhub 3?

I can barely max out my 200mbit connection with this thing on 5Ghz in the same room a couple of metres away from the router yet the superhub 3 I can get the full 200mbit in the bathroom upstairs.

Not good may have to go back to Argos considering it's been opened already I should have known and demanded a replacement, don't think I'll bother it performs woefully.

Hello,

May I have your detailed network topology, like how this router and virgin media hub connected?

Have you ever changed any advanced setting on it web UI which may affect your internet speed? If you are not sure, it is suggested to reset it to factory defaults and set up the internet again from its web UI and leave all the other settings by default.

Please also confirm what is the wired speed you can get when you connect one computer only to the AX50 with an Ethernet cable and leave all others disconnected, run the speed test again.

If the above test result is acceptable, please confirm again what is the 5G client model and try to get another device to do a simple comparison. Also, please check what is the negotiation link speed on that device as well as on this 5G one.

Thanks.

@Kevin_Z

I have the virgin superhub 3 in modem mode as indicated by the red light, I only use 5g, 2.4ghz is disabled, my phone is the new One plus 8 pro which supports WiFi 6 AX everything is auto on 5gjz band, I've tried adjusting bandwidth to 160mhz that made it slower which is backwards when my client supports AX.

Cable connection to PC speed is fine but wireless is slower than the hub 3 at the same distance, the router is positioned in the same place.

Here's an example, full signal, about 4 metres away from the router, yet the most it can manage on my 200mbit connection is 160-180 I get full 200mbit speed on the superhub 3 at the same distance.

Link speed is 720 sometimes 1200 not that makes any difference to the end result.

Hello, thanks for the detailed info.

How about the QoS setting on the AX50? It is suggested to check and ensure the QoS is on the Standard Mode (on the Tether Homecare page-QoS), then get back to the Clients' page, check all the clients connected to the router and ensure the High Priority is disabled.

Or, it would be easier to reset the AX50 to factory defaults and set it up from the scratch, leave all the settings by default and check the results again.

If the above suggestions don't make any difference, please try to change the channel width for the 5G to 80MHz, reboot the AX50 and check again.

Thanks.
