Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20200426 rel.65338

Hello

Recently purchased a TP-Link Archer AX50 and I'm trying to use the USB3 port.  I added a powered USB3 device and it does not recognize it.  This drive is 2TB.  I added a 16G usb Key and it shows.  Is there a max on the size of the USB that can be used and is there any limitations on this usb3 port?  I was hoping to use this as a file share drive on the router.  I have 2 weeks remaining to return it but I would like to get this working.

Thanks.

@ApAc

I think I got this to work after the latest upgrade. I now have a USB3 RAID 1 drive connected and it works fine. The version I’m on now is 1.0.9 Build 20200708.

@mud-flap

Hi,

What is the brand and model of this 2TB USB device, how about its format type, is it FAT32/NTFS/exFAT/hfs+?

How about its partition table, such as MBR or GPT?

Does it work fine if you plug it into a computer directly? Does it need to be powered up by an additional power adapter?

@Kevin_Z  Thanke for the reply.

The brand name is Guardian MAXImus made by NewerTech.  It is a USB 3.1 GEN 1 drive.  It is a RAID1.

It is formated NTFS.

The partition is GPT

The drive works fine if directely connected to a computer with either USB3 or USB2 port.

THe drive needs to be powered externally using its own power adaptor.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the detailed information.

Is it OK to reformat this drive on your computer? NTFS and FAT32 types are suggested.

However, if it still cannot be recognized by this router, there might be a compatibility issue. There should be no limit theoretically, but as you know there are so many brands of the HD or drives, it is not possible to test all of them.

Thanks again for your cooperation. Have a nice day.

@mud-flap I'm on 1.0.9. It is working fine, but the speed is exactly a typical USB 2.0 speed. The specification says USB 3.0, which means the USB 3.0 speed, not only the blue color of the socket!!!

@ApAc

yes you are correct with the speed. I also think that it is at USB2 speeds. The internal chip I think does support USB3 so I don’t know why it’s still at the USB 2 speeds. I was just happy to have it working. Now I can deal with the speed.
