Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.12

Good morning, afternoon and evening everyone.

I need an advice regarding the Deco M9 v1 and v2. I’m used to using the v1 and decided to expand the network so I ordered more Deco M9 but received the v2 this time. At the beginning, I thought this is a welcomed upgrade. Not so fast…

I have discovered that v2 is more limited than the v1. For example, the mobile app will let you know what devices connected to the v1 pods, but not the v2. The v2 cannot be accessed through the web link designed by Tp-Link, while the v1 is accessible!

Now, the straw that broke the camel's back, yesterday I get a notification that my v1 has a firmware upgrade available, while my v2 does not, with so many features available in the v1 upgrade. Seriously??

Published date for the latest firmware for the v2 is 2019-10-14

While the v1 latest firmware is 2020-06-08

Is TP-Link not going to support the v2, and keep it handicapped compared to the v1? I need to know so I can return the v2 that I bought or seek to exchange them with the v1.

@Raziel78

there are multiple topics about this on this forum. It's very frustrating. If you have the receipt then return the V2.

@Robert_M New firmware for v2 has just been released as you probably know, making it equal to v1. No need to return v2 units, I have 3.

Apparently an update was released this morning and it was on the support website and it just got pulled. I would definitely return your units rn and wait till this product gets updated properly. You can put this money towards the newer X series to expand your mesh.

Yeah you can mix and match any of the deco series. Just make sure its equivalent in specs to the m9+ or greater, so you won't have a bottle neck.

Deco M9 Plus is unique in being a tri-band verusus the other newer dual band ones.

@Raziel78

It is unique with a third 5ghz band being a backhaul band. However, it depends on your internet connection.

E.g. If you have 1gbps connenction then you will see 1000 Mbps wired,  theoretically you can get 800 Mbps on 5ghz and realistically being 1 foot away you'll see 500-600 Mbps in the best conditions (with a wire running as your backhaul). This means that unless you have an internet connection above 500 Mbps it won't make a differnce having that third band as most people have a stable 200-300 Mbps internet connection and that can easily run on the Dual band models.

That being said I don't know your home setup and what internet speed you have, along with the distance between pods (very important) as a big distance will render that third band useless. The realistic numbers are the ones that matter, they try to sell you on these high numbers but most of it is marketing.  So getting an X series with dual band with better support and future updates won't harm you as you want to stay in the deco ecosystem or get a P series that will use powerline.

@MapleLeaf

Thanks for the clarification, and to answer your questions; the house is two stories 2,500 sq ft and the internet connection is 1 Gbps. I have only two devices that support AX band.

Let's imagine both v1 and v2 firwares of Deco M9 are available and updated. Do you happen to know the hardware difference between both? Any reason to beleive the hardware in v2 is worse than the v1, especially how TP-Link tries to neglict its support?
