New Deco M9 Firmware 1.4
New Deco M9 Firmware 1.4
I got a push last night for new Deco firmware, verision 1.4.0. Is there anywhere I can read release notes online? I cannot find them. I'd like to know more about "supported Alexa native skill" and "TP-Link smart devices can be automatically added as smart devices after being connected to the Deco network now"
Thanks,
Ryan

@RyanEverhart789 I have version 2 and I just checked and I have not received the update, I think that your version is v1 or is on the way for everyone... Hopefully

Why is this only release for hardware revision v1?
We with hardware revision v2 are still stuck on version 1.2. Why dont you focus on at least getting 1.3 for v2 instead?
Have you stopped supporting the latest Deco M9 Plus revision2?
Please see this very frustrated thread about this issue

Release 1.4 for v1 without any news for v2 gets us offended here.

@e3henri You are right, it is supposed to be a top of the range model and that it has very limited functions is a real disappointment, and not knowing if it will have an update makes us feel cheated, being honest

@Sleater14 I believe I have V1... I looked on the bottom of one of the Decos and I did not see any wording about V2.

@TP-Link_Deco @e3henri v2 is the latest version of the hardware that replaces v1...they only sell this version now. Makes no sense why they only provide firmware updates for the old hardware but not the new...I have been posting rants on this across a few topics. Its super frustrating. I called their support again and copied the full record of my transcript below...btw, they said they escalated my concern to their management and would call me directly...that never happened.

me: Basically, I have a three v1 M9+ access points and single M9+ that is hardware v2. TP-Link done a terrible job on firmware support for this hardware version. I need my mesh system to have consistent feature sets and performance. Because I have a mix of 1.2.12 firmware and 1.4.0 firmware, this just is not possible. Please RMA by v2 hardware for a v1 hardware, otherwise I am returning it all to Costco and walking away from TP-Link completely.

me: Deco M9 plus

me: I have it all registered under this email as well

agent: Thank you, How can i help you?
me: i will re-paste what I already put above:

me: I've been waiting months for TP-Link to unify the firmware (features, etc) across the DecoM9 plus hardware versions and continue to be disappointed.
agent: Did you try to use the Version 2 as the Main deco instead? And check if the connection will be better?
2020-06-08 11:56:07
me: No, but my issue is more that the v2 deco is still running 1.2.12 firmware...you just released 1.4.0 for the v1 deco's...why would I want to have old firmware in my mesh system?
me: especially when all of my deco's are the same model?
2020-06-08 11:57:15
agent: I see, Btw is there any problem like slow internet or disconnection something like that?
me: since I added the v2 hw....I have been experiencing: inability to see which devices are connected to which AP
2020-06-08 11:58:33
me: loss of ability to turn device connectivity to specific decos
me: fast roaming not working well, at all
me: my only solution is the remove the v2 deco...but I need that one as it serves a back house for my father
2020-06-08 11:59:50
me: i just want an RMA on the v2 deco and you send me a v1 deco...this way, I have the same firmware and features running on all 4 of my deocs
agent: I see, Hold on please, Let me concern this case paul/

me: hello?
agent: Still here waiting for confirmation
2020-06-08 12:08:51
me: ?
2020-06-08 12:10:01
agent: Sir upon asking this, We cannot provide RMA a diff. version number. IF the replacement unit is Version 2 probably the new unit will be version 2 as well
2020-06-08 12:11:55
me: okay...then I am forced to return all my deco's to costco citing my disatisfaction. Really disappointed and I will no longer be a TP-Link customer...sorry, the way TP-Link is handling firmware support for this model seems crazy to me. Its taken months for v2 to get any update.
yet...in the same time period, the v1 hardware has already received 2 different firmware version updates
2020-06-08 12:14:44
me: so just for confirmation...TP-Link cannot help me and understands that I have no other option but to return the product to the retailer and move to a competing product?
I lost the last part of this transcript, but the agent asked me when I would be available to speak via telephone with their maanagement. I was then told I would receive a call immediately. That was 4 days ago...

@RyanEverhart789 If you're running 1.4, then guranteed, you have version 1....the update is not released for v2 deco's. If you have a mix of v1 and v2 like I do, the app will only report that you have 1.2.12 when you try to update. But, if you look at each deco individually, It will actually update the v1 hardware to 1.4, and leave the v2 hardwarew at 1.2.12...you will lose losts of features introduced in 1.3 because of those v2 deco's....super lame. I've added TP-Link to my "Doneski's List"
BTW, credit to @SrDarkWarrior here is the 1.4 beta firmware for the v2 deco m9 plus...i loaded it, super happy now.

Most of the tp link Routers allow you to connect to Alexa to do basic things. The M5 takes this a step further and allows you to control wifi access to individual devices. For example you could make an alexa routine that pauses internet for all the tvs from 5-7p for dinner. In the m5 documentation that was always referred to as the native skill. I've been waiting for the M9 to get the same functionality. Release notes say its now available but I can't make it fly.
