I have the unit placed up stairs next to a network jack but I have it connected wirelessly to the main Deco. Can i plug it in using one of the two network jacks? In theory it should work faster correct? Would I have to set the devices in AP mode?

In your case, is the network jack that you want to connect the second Deco is connected to the main Deco on the other side?
If yes, you can connect the second Deco to the network jack to get a stable/faster connection.
If not, you can't connect the second Deco to that network jack.
