Model: Archer A20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20200216 rel.72186(5553)

Hi Support and dear friends

Im using AX11000 with 500MBPS internet speed, (testing speed from GUI is 480/470 - down/up link). I will assume router to internet speed is ok.

WIFI is enabled for both 2.4G and dual 5G. - using the auto select mode.

I have a few devices like : IPad Pro12.9 Gen 1, IPad Pro 11 Gen 3, Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Huawei Mate XS, IPhone 11 Pro, IPhone XS MAX, no brand tablelet and labtops.

I have experienced following issue:

IPhone XS MAX, Huawei Mate 30 pro and Huawei mate XS - download speed is normal around 300-400mbps, but upload stuck at 2-3Mbs. At the same time, i tested iPad Pro and iPhone 11 Pro are ok for both download and upload. 400 - 500MBPS.   All tested at same location, about 2-3 meters away from router.

May i now if these is related router hardware or firmware? It seems like AX11000 is not user friendly with AC wireless clients.

Thankf for your reading and help.

Cheers.

@TerryG

if you use AC68U (AC1900) to bridge to Archer AX11000, no matter how fast speed the Archer AX1100 is, you can get at most 1299Mbps (433Mbps x 3 MIMO) wireless Link Speed. Then considering the WiFi payload and half duplex work mechanisim, you can get the maximum real speed in theory is 1299 x 50% x 50% =324Mbps. Considering the distance and obstacle between the Router and Range Extender, your real speed can be lower than 300Mbps.

The best solution is to have Ethernet connection between the Router and the second point and work the AC68U as the AP mode. This can geive you no extra 50% discount of your wifi Speed. But this is not convinient.

for convient wireless connection, since you are using new AX router, I would suggest you to have an AX standard Ranged Extender also. But as I know, there is no suitable AX Range Extender in the market yet. Maybe you need to wait for a little bit till when there is at least Range Extender that support up to 2402Mbps for 5G connection.

2402Mbps x 50%(half duplex due to WiFi nature) x 50% (wifi packet payload, etc.) = 600Mbps, this is around the maximum real wireless speed you can get on your flagship phone.

So my conclusion is that you don't have a good solution now if you want to buy a Range Extender to work with your Archer AX11000.

I would suggest you to replace the current Archer AX11000+Asus AC68U with Deco X60. It's 2402Mbps at 5G, it's not as strong as Archer AX11000, but with Deco X60, you can get 2402 x 50% = 1201Mbps real wifi speed with the Main rouer's WiFi and 2402 x50% x50% =600Mbps real speed with the satellite router's WiFi. The average is much better, isn't it?

@Kevin_Z

What is your FW verison of you router? And if you recently updated the latest FW on the APP or web UI, please try to downgrade to the previous version via Web UI manually.

I suggest the 191223 version.

@TerryG

Thanks for the information provided.

Do both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz have the same issue? What about the speed you can get from the 2.4GHz?

Have you ever enabled QoS on the Archer AX11000? If so, try to set it to standard and do not enable device priority either.

Good day.

@TerryG Hi Guys, I finally found problem. Once I enable my old ASUS AC68U (AC1900) as wireless bridge to extend the wifi coverage.

My whole network will slow down for upstream.

Possible walk around:

1. Remove ASUS, my coverage will as good, but both download/upload is around 100M.

2. Connect Asus as AP, but make no sense.

next step: I will get one wifi range extender, and I need some advise if any use Linksys AC2600 as wireless bridge (i have to give up ASUS AC68U) or D-link wifi extender.

Or i must using TP-link wifi extender?

Thank you

Hi Matt Really appreciate your detail analysis. i was thinking to give 2nd 5G band for Asus 68U Wireless bridging. and the rest of my devices should connect to 1st 5G band on AX11000. Not ture if this is right understanding about benefits of AX11000 Tri-band. other idea : Grab the benefits from MU-MiMO, My friend will loan me his Linksys EA8100 to try. (asus ac68u doesn't suppprt MU-MIMO). Anyway. i really not very sure if my understanding on tri-band and Mu-mimo is correct. thanks again.

@TerryG

you can try EA8100 first, it can improve your WiFi speed in theory. Because EA8100 is 4x4 MIMO while your asus is 3x3 MIMO, that means if you take it as the Range Extender, you can get 4 x 433Mbps x 50% x 50% = 433Mbps, if the wifi environment is good and the distance is not far, you can get more than 500Mbps real wifi speed.

But as I post in another thread, you also need to pay attention to where you put the amplifier.

PS: there is a mistake that many users may take. Assume the point A is the site you put your main router, and the point B is the area that you have extrem bad WiFi. If you want to have a better wifi on Point B, you had better to put the amplifier to point between A and B, but not the point B. Even that the amplifier generally have better tramsmission power & antenna gain than mobile phone/laptop, if you put the amplifier to the point B, you still cannot improve your WiFi performance greatly because the wireles link between the main WiFi and amplifier can still be weak.

@matthew.mfden

Hi, I got a D-link 2600 Wireless extender model is Dap-1860. I think I got half of total internet bandwidth. Around 200Mbps.  (although my phone shows connection speed at 866Mbps).

Now I should wait for mesh firmware available for Ax11000 out.  then decide to purchase a new mesh point.

thanks

Terry
