Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 Build 20191014 rel.33289(4555)

Hello!

Yesterday I switched to a higher speed connection (should be 400Mbps). The repair man came and tested everything - wires, my PC and router - if I connect my PC directly to the line the speed is correct (even 800Mbps), but if I connect through C6 it says 100 (well actualy 104Mbps up/down). The wire from pc to router was also tested and it supports 1Gbps (in the router settings it actually says that LAN4 (where it's connected) is 1000Mbps full duplex. I was thinking about switching to Open Wrt but its not that easy to do. Has anyone else had same experience and maybe a fix to this? On a PC you can force 1Gbps in the settings, is there a way to do this on this router?

Hi, if any of you still encounter an issue with the speed, which is capped at 100 Mbps when connecting to the TP-Link router, please check the troubleshooting suggestions we provided here, and report back if the issue is resolved or not:

[Troubleshooting] Speed limit to 100 Mbps

@Jacque

Hello, the Archer C6 has the gigabit LAN ports, it can handle 1000Mbps theoretically; considering the current speed is limited to almost 100Mbps, we will do some troubleshooting and try to fix it.

1. With computer connected to the Archer C6, please test the wired speed and wireless speed respetively; And please check the wired/wireless negotiation speed as well. Instruction is: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2265/

Note: The steps are the same, except you need click ethernet connection.

2. Please check the negotiation speed of the LAN port on the web UI of the Archer C6 and show us a screenshot.

3. Please ensure that the firmware version of the Archer C6 is the latest one.

4. And you can change another ethernet cable, like cat5e or above.

May it help.

Experiencing same issue here.

Computer directly on modem → 920Mbps
Computer via C6 (ethernet) → max 420Mbps

WiFi speeds on 5Ghz were ok, as expected for wireless. (and not exceeding the WAN limitation)

2.4Ghz was a joke, but I don't mind since only some old smart-home devices use it.

When I tested

- I used cat5e and no other devices were connected to the modem/router whatsoever.

- I tested separately, one by one, the two cat5e I used with direct connection to the modem and both gave around 900Mbps

- I used exactly the same speed-test endpoint, provided by the internet provider.

Unfortunately it seems C6 is not powerful enough to handle it.

@ioanimal I got all cat5e cabling. PC to cable modem = 940 mbps. If the router is in between, it's 1/10 at 94 mbps. Only reason I got the Archer C6 was because it said full gigabit on the box.

Even for me same issue ethernet LAN from PC to router showing only 05 MBPS. If I connect directly to ISP broadband cable, I get 95 MPS. Wifi speeds are good as well. Not sure whats with LAN connection. And it happened all of sudden. It was working fine earlier

Same issue with me.

I have a 150 MBps internet connection from the ISP. And on directly connecting to the internet through RJ45 gives >150 MBps download speeds.

Through Archer C6 it is restricted to 100 Mbps. Negotiation says 100MBps.

Please help.

have a 1000Mbps(1Gbps) internet connection from the ISP. (modem>LAN line(cat 5e)>pc) The modem goes to the computer via LAN line(cat 5e) have 80-99Mbps (modem>LAN line(cat 5e)>router>LAN line(cat 5e)>pc) The modem enters the router through the LANdline (cat5e) and enters the computer at a speed of 80-99Mbps After that I contacted the ISP and found that the modem’s LAN1 and LAN2 only have 100Mbps, while LAN3 and LAN4 only have 1000Mbps (1Gbps). The modem goes to the computer via LAN line(cat 5e) have 800-999Mbps (modem>LAN line(cat 5e)>router>LAN line(cat 5e)>pc) The modem enters the router through the LANdline (cat5e) and enters the computer at a speed of 100-200Mbps You may need to contact your ISP for help. ***My English is very poor, so the above are all translated through google, I hope it helps you***

@Nayan-Dharamshi   @thinktank_12

Hello, apologies for the super late reply.

For the LAN negotiation issue you encountered, please try the below suggestions and get back to the community with the details if it cannot be solved, thanks.
1. Log in to the web UI of the Archer C6 and go to the Basic-Network map page, click the Archer C6 image/icon and scroll down this page, you will see the Ethernet negotiation speed of the LAN ports, show us the screenshot:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2472/
2. Go to Advanced-system tools-system parameters to edit the duplex, change it to 1000Mbps full-duplex if you have a gigabit line, change it to 100Mbps if you got ~100Mbps internet from ISP, then reboot the router.
3. After that, try to test the negotiation speed on your PC again. It is strongly suggested changing another cat5e or cat6 cable.
4. It is also suggested changing another wired device with gigabit Ethernet ports to do a test.
5. What is the length of the Ethernet cable between the C6 and your PC, in other words, what is the distance between them? Is it the same cable when you are testing the speed with your modem directly?

If none of the above works, please tell us the brand and model number of the gigabit Ethernet adapter on that PC, we will check and investigate further. Thanks.

My router model is Archer C6 (EU) Ver: 2.0,
==
(modem>LAN line(CAT 5e)>PC)can 800-999Mbps,
==
I can ask (modem>LAN line(CAT 5e)> router>LAN line(CAT 5e)>PC) Is it normal that pc speedtest is only 100-249Mbps? Are there other settings that can improve performance?
==
Current changes:
==
1) Before: modem(LAN1)>LAN line(CAT 5e)> router(LAN1)>...>PC(http://192.168.0.1>Basic>Archer C6>Ethernet>Port Internet>Negotiation Speed>100Mbps full duplex)
==
After: modem(LAN4)>LAN line(CAT 5e)> router(LAN1)>...>PC(http://192.168.0.1>Basic>Archer C6>Ethernet>Port Internet>Negotiation Speed>1000Mbps full duplex)
==
2) Before: modem(LAN4)>LAN line(CAT 5e)> router(LAN1)>LAN line(CAT 5e)>PC(https://www.speedtest.net>100-249Mbps[no change])
==
After: modem(LAN4)>LAN line(CAT 6)> router(LAN1)>LAN line(CAT 5e)>PC(https://www.speedtest.net>100-249Mbps[no change])

I am having the same issue. Brand new Archer C6 AC1200 and i have a 300mbs connection which only shows as 100mbs in the router negociation speed menu.

Download speed is capped at 100mbs

If i am using my older archer ac750 works fine up to 300mbs download.

The cable is fine, i am using a ppoe connection with the cable that came with the router.

I have done even a factory reset and it still shows 100mbs

Is the router malfuctioning or is there any other setting i must enable?
