Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 build 20190821 Rel. 54023

Hi,

I have the following config for my M9+. It mostly works very well, but I have noticed the following

* my media server is connected (wired) to office_2

* when I connect any device, e.g. laptop, phone, to kitchen_3 I'm unable to access the server on office_2. Traceroute comes up with nothing too.

* when I connect the same device to hallway_1, I can access the media server.

* the issue isn't isolated to the wired mediaserver. The same issue exists when trying to connect to my iMac, which is wirelessly connected to office_2

The setup is running in router mode ( which is mandatory so I can use parental controls ).

What can I do ?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Edwin

Hello Edwin, how do you connect the two slave Decos to the main Deco? By wireless or wired cable?

With computer connected to the two slave Decos, can you access internet normally? Try to ping the device which connects to the office-2 from kitchen-3 and show me the results. And you can show us the results of the traceroutes.

Have you ever tried to swap the two slave Decos or change one of the slave Deco units to the main Deco to give it a shot?

Note: Here is the instruction: How to Setup the Slave Deco to be the Main Deco?

Thanks a lot.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for your repy. Both slaves are connected wirelessly to the master. I can't really change this due to lack of wired connections I could use.

I've swapped the two slave devices but the problem persists, it's worth noting though that the issue is intermittent it seems, which makes me wonder if it has to do with moving between Decos. I've now disabled 'mesh' for all fixed devices, including the media server. Regarding the suggestion about the main deco, this isn't an option as the slaves are not wired to the router.

Doing a tracert give this.

Traceroute has started…

traceroute to synone.local (192.168.68.107), 64 hops max, 72 byte packets

 1  192.168.68.107 (192.168.68.107)  7.885 ms  7.473 ms  136.598 ms

cheers,

Edwin.

@Vee8ed

Thanks for your valued reply Edwin.

Do your devices access internet from the two slave Decos? If the issue still presists after you swapped the two slave units, the root cause should not be the slave Deco itself.

Do you use static IP for the media server or dynamic IP?

When devices cannot access it, please check whether media server has obtained the valid IP address and gateway; and try to ping its IP address from the local device which connects to the other slave unit.

Besides, you can contact the tech support of the media server to get some suggestion as well.
