Deco M9 Plus v2 firmware not possible to update and are missing features compared to v1
I have v2 and the DECO app reports that I have 1.2.10 Build 20190809 54285
On the webpage https://www.tp-link.com/de/support/download/deco-m9-plus/#Firmware however there is a newer 1.2.11 20190926 55727
Why does the DECO report that I have the latest firmware and why cant I upgrade to 1.2.11?
On the other hand what Im really asking for is to get the same features as HW v1 got.
You have release 1.3.0 with lots of new features and it was built in August and Released in October. Why dont we get that for revision v2?
All these things was release on Ocotber for revision v2
Modifications and Bug Fixes:
1. Added support for IPTV bridge mode and custom mode.
2. Added IPv6 firewall rules feature.
3. Added Mesh Technology option.
4. Displayed which client is connected to which deco and which Wi-Fi band.
5. Displayed how Decos are connected to each other.
6. Supported up to 64 entries each for Address Reservation and Port Forwarding.
7. Improved the system stability and fixed some bugs.
Notes:
1. Please update your Deco App to the latest version in order to use new features.
2. If there are other Deco models in your Deco network, you may miss some new features till other models release updates in the near future.

Hello @Ipat and all,
The 1.2.11 is the latest firmware for the Deco M9 plus; the reason why you cannot get the update is that the 1.2.11 is the original firmware of the new batch Deco M9 plus V2, which means the Deco M9 plus with 1.2.10 or below firmware won't be able to get the updates via Deco app.
Compared with 1.2.10, actually there is no specific new feature added on the 1.2.11; and the new firmware for the Deco M9 plus V2 is under test now; even though the estimated supporting time is still unsure, you can keep an eye on official website.
Good day.

@Kevin_Z Will the version under test bring it closer to the feature set of the m5? My v2 version is 1.2.10, not 1.2.11. Will 1.2.10 also get the update to the version under test and if not what does that mean?

Even if planning is unsecure: can you give a indication which functions will be included? If they are testing then that should be known.
Planningwise: i'm not 'going to keep an eye on the official website'; that makes no sense at all. There is an update there but that one is not available for us! Kindly give us a global planning: will it be 1 week? a month? 3 months?
Communication is key.

Hi all,
Like many of you I am waiting for the new firmware for the Deco M9 plus V2. I have a bad feeling about not being able to login by web UI. Meanwhile I was wondering if I should just exchange my 3-pack for some other brand. I did not read about anyone being able to upgrade from 1.2.10 to 1.2.11, which got me worried if I would be able to upgrade once 1.3.0 is released for V2.
I decided to try to update from 1.2.10 to 1.2.11 using the tool upgrade_GDPR. I am happy to tell you that I succeeded for all three units
Still waiting, but a llittle less worried...

Could you please provide a link to 1.3 beta version for M9 v2? And an update on the release time?
Also, could you please communicate to your product management the frustration of the users expressed on this forum by the reduced functionality of v2. This can lead to many returns of M9 V2 products, and force users to select other brands for the next mesh router.

@Roelant , could you share the method used to upgrade and the also the link to the upgrade_gdpr tool? Will be appreciated.
thanks

I found the upgrade_GDPR-tool within a zip-file linked in post #15 by Kevin_Z in this topic.
WARNING: Do not use the M9Plus.bin within this zip-file... it is for M9 Plus v1. If you want to repeat my steps, download and use 1.2.11 for M9 Plus v2 from the support pages.
Within the zip-file there also is a manual, which explains what to do. It is not usefull to actually upgrade though, since 1.2.11 is basically the same as 1.2.10.
I made sure every time I was updating a unit, I had a wired connection from my laptop to that unit. It may also be important that the unit is connected to the internet, since you need to use your TP-link account for performing the update (but I am not sure about that).

As already reported before there is no meaning to upgrade to 1.2.11...there is nothing new.
What we need is the 1.3 version that has been available to the revision v1 of the product for over 4 months.
Just face the fact. TP link is not updating their latest flagship product for mesh and they can not even provide a date for when it will arrive (if it ever arrives).
This was the first and last time I ever buy a TP link product. I will go back to Netgear/Dlink/Asus for my next purchase and will not recommend TP link to anyone.
