I'm considering to buy a tp link m5 router but is it possible to seperate the 5ghz from the 2.4 ghz?

@Kong16 Simple, NO. 

But, with Mesh and k/v/r 802.11 amendments and WI-SON from chipset don't make any sense use 5 apart from 2.4 Let's deco control this for you.

@leogz thanks for your comment! I really want this because my MacBook is very slow when it's connected to 2.4 ghz for some reason. So I want to force my Mac to use 5ghz

@Kong16 i use 3 macbooks on my network and in rare case they connect @ 2.4. Normally on 5.

The 2.4GHz and 5GHz use same network name and password; while there are buttons to turn on/off each band separately. 

 

If you want to connect your MAC to the 5GHz only, you can disable 2.4GHz first, and connect it to the 5GHz. 

 

Even though we can not separate the two wifi networks on Deco, you can change some settings of the wireless network adapter on your MAC to allow it connect to the 5GHz only.

Main Network, only 2.4G, and guest network only 5Ghz or vice versa. this is not best way but one solution for use into specific cases.
