Model: RE200
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: Latest

Hello, I want to connect RE200 Range Extender and W9970 Modem wirelessly.

To do this I activated WDS mode on W9970 and found RE200 on the network. Connected them with survey option. Also fixed channel to 11.

On RE200 I changed LAN IP address as 192.168.1.2 for it to be on the same Lan. And gave 192.168.1.103 IP address. Then changed the working mode to Access Point and restarted. I tried to turn off DHCP server but I couldn't find an option because of this and RE200 don't get IP from W9970 and doesn't connect internet.

I did the same configurations on my WR740N router and I succeeded to connect them wirelessly and I used the main modem in my saloon and WR740N in living room.

I bought RE200 to use as a Range Extender instead of WR740N but I am having many problems with Extender Mode. Internet is losing connection on the extender frequently and ping, jitter and download speed is decreasing severly. On the contrary the wifi signal is perfect and Lan speed is 433 mbit on 5ghz band and 186 mbit on 2.4 ghz band. But as I said even though the signal and network speed is perfect the internet connection is very weak. Because of this I wanted to use it as AP but wirelessly.

Is it possible to do this configuration or should I resend the RE200 to seller?

Thanks for your reply. I solved the problem. Firstly, there is not WDS mode on RE200. I connected the modem and Extender with regular Extender mode and internet connection is very good. The problem was because of the security profile I chose for internet. I changed security option from Family protection to "I don't want protection" option and the connection established.

@BahadirKaya90

I'm afraid that there is something wrong.

First, when RE200 works in access point mode, it need connect to the main router by wired cable, not wireless anymore. In range extender mode, it connects to the router by wifi.

Besides, you do not have to enable WDS featuren on the TD-W9970; usually we enable this feature when we tried to configure the DSL modem router as a range extender to boost the wifi, but if it works in the regular router mode or DSL modem router mode, you do not have to enable it.

And for the unstable connection issue, you can follow the instruction to do troubleshooting.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2233/

Or you can configure it as access point, to connect it to the main router by wired cable to test its performance and stability.

Good day.

@BahadirKaya90

Alright, thanks for your reply. Glad to hear that you figured it out.

While there are something I need clarify.

There is no WDS mode on RE200, it is a range extender already, it can connect to the main router by wirelessly.

The TD-W9970 supports WDS mode, which means we can use it to connect to the main router to boost wifi signal.

If need more help, please let me know.
