Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

So i was scammed into buying a defective deco M9 plus product (no thanks to me wanting to save some bucks by buying used equipment).     Well, at least half of it, as the other unit is working just fine.  The seller already blocked me out, so yeah, it's really a frickin' scam.

The issue is it seems that one of the unit is already bricked... no lights, no power, no connection whatsoever... tried different outlet, and power adapter.. nothing.  Bricked..  So i'm wondering, how do i get into the internals of this M9 Plus?  I want to dismantle it as I don't think I'm getting any warranties for this as I don't have a receipt when I bought it earlier.  I have a few techy friends who might be able to help me on this, but i can't seem to decipher to how open this up physically to see the internal components.

@Don_Romero

Hello, you can try to hard reset it by holding the reset hole for 1s. And please use the original power adapter.

If the Deco still freeze, I'm afraid that there is not much we can do.

While if you want to dismantle the Deco M9 plus, you can use some tool to prize the cover up.

@Don_Romero

There are no screws, it's all held together by small plastic (fragile) clips. See these photos for reference:

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/images/stories/wireless/tplink_deco_m9plus/tplink_deco_m9plus_inside.png

https://fccid.io/TE7M5/Internal-Photos/Internal-Photo-3296920

So, it can be opened relatively easy, using a special prying tool, pick or screwdriver.

But, once you open it, what do you hope to find? It's not exactly serviceable, unless you have good electronics / soldering / component level repair skills.

@Dan751

Thanks for sharing.

For other users, if you bought the devices from local retailers or online authorized sellers, please do not try to dismantle the Deco since it would break the warranty.

Here are some suggestions for your reference:

1. Test with a different power adapter.

2. Reset by holding the reset pinhole for 1s.

3. Firmware recovery per the link: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2958/
