Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.11 Build 20190726 rel.57101

Hi

I have a 200mb broadband connection provided by my ISP (virgin media) with their own hub in modem mode, and the C7 connected to via the WAN port to LAN port 1 on the hub.

I have always had excellent speeds of around 220mb down and 20mb up which is about the max on my connection.  This has worked reliably with the C7 until recently, when the ISP had an outage.

When they came back up my speeds both wired and wireless via the C7 are around 40% slower.  When I run a speed test, they first go up to near 200-220, then slowly fall away to settle around 110-140mb.

I have tried factory resetting both the ISP's hub and the C7 and going through setup again.  Sometimes, after a reboot of the C7 it resolves itself for a while, but after a couple of hours the issue re-occurs.

If I connect direct to the ISP's hub and test i get the full 220ish.

Any suggestions/ideas?  I've had an engineer come take a look at the ISP's kit and he found no issues.  I've done all the obvious stuff, like swapping out cables and disabling unused services in the router.

Thanks in advance

Matt

@Rigglybob

Hello, what is the speed you can get from the modem directly when the speed slows down to 40% of the bandwidth from Archer C7?

In the meantime, please connect your computer to the Archer C7 and click here to verify the wired negotiation speed.

Note: The steps are the same, except you need right click on local area connection or ethernet.

Besides, have you setup the QoS on the Archer C7? If so, try to disable it and run the speed test again.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z the modem is consistently giving 220mb, its the output from the router that slows down.

The negotiated speed on the WAN port is 1Gbps.

I have not enabled QoS. I have tried disabling Nat boost but that has no effect.

Last night whilst streaming Netflix, the router slowed to < 10mb and had to be rebooted to restore the speed.

I've watched the CPU and memory usage whilst downloading / speed testing and they are fine.

It's very strange.

Appreciate your help / support.

Matt

Please tell us the model number of the ISP hub as well.

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.
