Hi all,
I'm having some disconnecting problems with my TP-Link wifi adapter (Archer T4U 1200 AC) when reaching high download speeds.
So basically I have purchased one about 11 months ago. At first use I already noticed that when downloading at high speeds (+/- 8MB/s and higher) my internet would just cancel out, disconnect or what else you want to call it. Therefor I have always limited my download speed to 5 MB/sec and it would not give me problems anymore. And if it did accidentally download faster, I always had to manually fix it by disconnecting and reconnecting to my router and it would work again.
Now since I upgraded my internet to a 500 mbit download speed I am getting the same problem with it while working (browsing) with spotify on the background.
I have already concluded that this problem is not caused by my router as other devices (5 people, 3 smart tv's, 4 laptops and alot of smartphones) are not having any similar problems.
I have already tried the following:
1. upgrading the firmware
2. tried other USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)
3. use it with and without extension cable
Does this issue sound familiar to anyone or is anyone able to help me out on this? I know it's a ''cheap'' option to buy a new one but I'm more of a try to fix it person :)
Edit: I'm also in close range of my router (~2 meters)

@Hayzech I didn't... at the end I changed to 2.4ghz. it's the only way this device is stable for me. Probably a single wall is making my 5ghz connection to drop.

OK, so I'll describe one issue that I just solve that maybe is the culprit of all this mess.
Short version: make sure your device driver provider on Device-manager -> Properties -> driver -> is TP-Link Technologies
Long version
If you suffer from device disconnections and if you are able to replicate it, do it with the device manager open and click GENERAL on the TP link device. The device status will tell what is happening. I discovered two things on the adapter properties with this experiment:
1 - Windows was actually uninstalling the device and installing it again
2 - After that the DRIVER PROVIDER was Microsoft not TPLINK. Reinstalling the TPLINK driver was actually going back to the windows driver.
So, I tried to unistall the driver from microsoft and did not work on the first try, the driver was liked to c:/windows/system32/drivers/rtwlanu.sys. I moved that file to my desktop and forced the installation of the TPLink's driver from the device manager. For me, that file that I moved (rtwlanu.sys) was now installed by TP-Link's driver, it has a different size and on its properties now has a digital signature. I have never mess with that file before in my system.
Now I'm trying to make the device fails, but so far nada. All good in 2.4ghz and 5ghz

My other one broke and I took out the Archer T4U again..
Unfortunately still the same results and crashing on and on.
I have tried your solution but it seems it doesnt let me uninstall. Removing the four files from system32 driver folder doesn't work. I have succesfully deleted them, was unable to use wifi, and yet it said ''the latest driver is already installed''.
Any idea? Could you maybe provide me with your files to see what happens if I replace them in my system32/driver folder?
its so shitty that TPlink still has no solution for this!

I got the same problem, I am in Japan, and using it for 3 years.
When I download something with high speed such as 21m/s, it will disconnect randomly, totally randomly...
I have no idea how to fix this, but I think TPLINK should do some test and try to fix it. It is very easy to re-produce this bug.
Regards to the answer about change driver from microsoft to tplink, I think it is a bigger problem/issue of TPLINK company, if user have to do this to use TPLINK's product, then I will never buy TPLINK anymore!

May I know are you using the latest driver on tp-link official website?
If so, it is recommended to try this chipset driver and see if issue could be resolved or not:

@Solla-topee The problem is that windows 10 does a replacement of those drivers automatically and the devices starts to work wrong. I agree that the official drivers can work fine, but to keep them with the system is a very difficult task for any user.

@Solla-topee Hi thanks, but this is not a solution. Disabling updates is unacceptable and it compromises the other devices in your system, plus the complexity it involves is not at for regular user-level.
Why TP-link can’t update the driver to make it work properly?

@L4nz Hello,
I assume Windows update will find " newer" "driver which not specifically for certain chipset. The official driver is already the latest one specifically for this chipset.
Here is a public driver which is newer than the official one, you could try this and see it will be affected by Windows or not.

I have installed the driver you shared and the disconnection issue disappeared (tested for 30 minutes, so far so good).
I think TPLINK should share this driver in Product's webpage:

So users like me can find the answer by access to that page.
Normally, Users are try to find the newest driver by product's webpage not BBS.
