What to buy for best wifi router range?
Live in a single story 2400 sqft home and have been unable to reach my back bedroom with old Linksys and new Synology RT2600ac (loved the software). I've tried using TP-link extenders, but they're unable to handle any 1080p streaming.https://xender.vip/
I was looking at the Asus RT-AC5300, but $300 for a router....that seems crazy high priced. I'll never use half the stuff in it...just need something that can handle the distance and has good/stable software (even better if I can throw custom firmware on it and jack up the range if needed). https://testmyspeed.onl/
*Can anyone recommend a router that should be able to handle that distance and still deliver good performance? https://192168ll.onl/

Per Archer C8, the wifi coverage area depends on the actual network environment, including the router location, distance, obstacles and so on. You can verify the speed needed fro the 1080P device and the current speed you can get from the extender.
There is another network expansion device, which is called powerline adapters, they communicate with each other via powerline, if the whole house running under the same power circuit, it may be a choice.
For the best wifi coverage, a whole mesh wifi system may be the best, like the Deco series TP-Link have.
Best regards.

Router industry has gone way complex in last decade. Too many functionalities has been introduced and are in industrial use.
If we consider a router for home use. Yes, Tp link provide easy UI and decent options which may be required by home user at most affordable price.
I personally prefer Tp-link for house and small office. Never found any issue due to router.

There is no magic router with amazing range. All routers have their power output limited by law and any good router is already at that limit. The RT2600AC is a good router and a $300+ gaming BS router is not going to improve range. Even if there was a router with more power output than the law allows it would not help, your clients would still be too weak to respond.
As you have found out extenders do not help. You need either ideally access points or a good tri-band mesh system. Access points are cheap and perform better than mesh but require an Ethernet or MoCA connection back to the main router.

I looked at Synology as they make many fine networks products. Their current router lineup is only two routers and both are AC routers. No AX routers. If you look at the technical reviews of other manufactures of routers that offer both AC and AX, you will note that as a group, AX routers out perform their AC counterpart even when using AC devices.
I think an AX router is best if you want or need max distance using a single router.
Extenders, repeaters, True Mesh, routers with Mesh features, APs all have their good and bad points. Of course, the best is good old CAT 6 Ethernet connections.
