Block unknown devices on Deco M9 - user changes MAC address to fool parental controls
Hi all,
I've been using the Deco M9 Plus for a couple of days now and I'm very pleased with it. The wi-fi is excellent in whole our house. And especially the parental controls are very valuable too to control the extensive use of internet of some of the users.
I have a question however. Is there an option to (automatically) block unknown devices on the network? I'm familiar with the blacklist option but I wouild like to see a whitelist for devices as well. The problem is that one user in our home is smartass enough to change the MAC address of his computer each time the parental control blocks his internet. Ofcourse the Deco notifies me that a new device is noticed on the network and than I can manually block the device but is there anyway it can be done automatically?
The Deco acts like a router and is directly connected to my ISP modem.
Is there any other option to block unknown MAC addresses from the internet should there be no possibility to achieve this with the Deco?
Thanks for your replies.

It is not TP-Link fault that Apple "geniuses" introduced MAC address randomization, but now with Android joining the same trend, having whitelist is really pressing matter for those who need MAC address filtering on their home networks. Which includes parental controls and even basic blacklisting.

Come on tp-link, enough is enough.
The lack of a default profile (which can be the most restrictive) or of an approval process for new devices joining the wi-fi network means that parental control is essentially useless.
Please, where is the update that will provide this desperately needed functionality?

It's been over 2 years since this thread has been created and more and more devices are using mac randomization nowadays.
Parental control has become useless. Still no word from tplink...
Such a waste of a potentially good product.

Hi,
It is unbelievable that such an easy and useful feature has not been implemented yet !
i definitely will not recommend the purchase of a Deco to anyone until it provides the whitelist filtering option.

Windows 10 has this feature too.
Tp Link is still sleeping over it for more than 2 years. This is unacceptable.

2 years: no resolution, no recommendation, no workaround.
Parental control is useless now
I'm going to update my Amazon review to 1 star and mention about this thread and how company ignores own customers.
i will update review once it is fixed (unless I switch to a competitor's product)

I'm sad that I recommended this device to my sister before this massive feature flaw was apparent. TP-Link don't seem to care in the slightest.
