Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.2 v0076.0 Build 170919 Rel.61201n

 Hello, Hope you are having a good week.

 I am in the process of getting an Xbox One X to connect to my network, so it can use the the internet, through the TD-W9970

 I would like to find the best way to connect it without blocking ports and being mindful of security.

 I have done a few tests on my PC before the Xbox arrives but cannot seem to identify the problem I have.

 I have not created a private Static IP. The private IPs remain constant. No hard resets of computer or router.

 I've disabled uPnP (I've also tried the below tests with uPnP enabled)

 The PC Private IP is used in the screenshot

I've tested Telnet with run commands

telnet 192.168.1.102 80 FAILED

telnet 192.168.1.102 3074 FAILED

telnet 192.168.1.101 80 PASSED

telnet 192.168.1.101 3074 FAILED

telnet 192.168.1.1 80 PASSED

telnet 192.168.1.1 3074 FAILED

If I test my Public IP for open ports through a web browser (https://www.portcheckers.com/https://www.yougetsignal.com) all ports including 80 are blocked.

Internet on my PC works fine.

I am tempted when the Xbox arrives to just not bother with these NAT settings and enable PnP and see what happens.

Why are these ports blocked when I am creating exceptions for them through the Router UI (Virtual Server)?

Am I entering the information wrong in the router UI?

What am I doing wrong?

I know its hard to answer some of these questions on the forum, looking at some of the posts it can be frustrating, praise to anyone legit who can give me their time to help. I 've tried to supply information needed to help you out.

@User7856

The local management for the TD-W9970 uses port 80, that is why you saw this port has opened up.

Below is the instruction to open port for Xbox, usually, we use port 88 and 3074. You can give it a go.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/71/

If Xbox requires to open port 80, you can change the local management port by going to system tools-manage control page.

 Thank you unfortunately that did not help. I'll try reword this to simplify.

 I have set up to open a port on this Private IP and have run a telnet command

 telnet 192.168.1.102 3074 FAILED

Can you answer why this port is still closed and why the set up of the Virtual Server failed?

@User7856

Telnet 192.168.1.102 3074 FAILED means that you failed to open port 3074.

Please check the IP address and gateway /DNS server of the Xbox, if necessary, it is suggested to setup a static IP for the Xbox and re-open the port for it.

You can use Port forwarding to do a comparison test, not Virtual server.

Besides, what is the current internet IP address of the TD-W9970?
