USB attached drive keeps dropping off until I reboot the router
I keep having to reboot the router to get the USB drive to show back up on my network.
The USB drive is a WD My Book 1140 3TB
Firmware Version: 3.0.4 Build 20180122 rel.42880 (US)
Is there a firmware update fix perhaps?

Hi, the issue may be different on your VR900v, please help confirm some details then we can try to work it out:
1. What is the brand and model of the USB drive? How about its capacity? Ensure it is working properly when you plug it into the USB port of the computer.
2. Check this guide again and try to access it via Method 2.

I have an Archer AX6000 V1 running firmware 1.2.2 Build 20210223 rel.78164(5553).
Recently upgraded the attached 500gb USB drive to a 5TB Seagate Expansion Plus.
I am also now having random disconnects.
If I go into the web UI and rescan it then works again.
I don't remember this issue with the old 500gb drive.
Maybe these newer, larger drives have some kind of power saving mode that is disconnecting them?

@MikeyA , yes that is the same issue I have with my router. I will be replacing the router soon with a Linksys EA6900 so I will know soon enough if it is a HD issue or a TP-Link issue. I did attach my HD to my computer and made sure that is was not set to "power saving mode".
I will post a follow up when I get the router down here to Colombia but that wont be for a month or two..... yeah, I live in the middle of nowhere.

When the HDD disconnects, is the USB LED on the AX6000 still on? What is the format of the 5TB Seagate Expansion Plus, is it the same as the old 500gb USB drive?
Is there an additional power supply for the 5TB Seagate Expansion Plus?
@SirDigital Is the model of your TP-Link router also AX6000? What is the brand and model of the HDD that works with the router?

the AX6000 doesn't have a USB LED.
It only has 1 single led that indicates internet connectivity by showing either blue or red.
the seagate expansion plus 5tb does not require extra power. It is powered from the USB port.
the format of the new drive is NTFS. Same as the old drive.

@SirDigital I'm having the same issue with a 1TB USB3 hard drive disconnecting. The same drive worked perfectly with a Vodafone Hub. Tried NTFS and ex-FAT formatting - same result.
I have an Archer V900 H/W 3
Symptoms are - I'm using Infuse on Apple TV4K. Add SMB share and works fine, able to use for several hours with no issue. Power off and try to reconnect 1-2 hours, or next day and get error that SMB is not found. Sometimes I can remove the share and re-add, other times I have to unplug the HDD. Very inconvenient. Does point to an issue with router and how it handles USB devices.

I'm using Archer C7 router and I have attached a seagate 8TB drive with separate power supply for backup purposes. I was copying lot of files to the drive from another drive and today a network error kept coming every 10 mins and the file transfer was being interrupted. When I went to the router's web site(http://192.168.0.1) I saw that the drive was just getting vanished every 10mins or so from the USB and then coming back in a strange way. After playing with it for sometime I found out that when I disable all wi-fi and reboot the router the problem got solved and the transfer rates also improved. I could do this as my PC is connected to the router via ethernet and I have another TP-link router(access point mode) connected to an ethernet port of this router for wi-fi range extension purposes. The data transfer rate to the USB drive is impacted when I go around pages in the router website and when the internet connection gets reconnected also. It seems like the resources in the router is limited and it is giving priority for router work than the USB drive. Also make sure that NAT boost is enabled which will reduce the burden on the router processor. Please let me know if this helps.

So, was this ever resolved? I have the same issue as others...
AX6000 v1 running 1.2.4 Build 20210719 rel.12163(5553) firmware with a WD Elements 2620 4.6TB drive that is formatted as NTFS. The drive works great connected to my laptop. When connected to the router, I access via SMB through \\share. I run a Macrium backup set every few days and it is during this backup that I get an error message (at different intervals) that the drive is no longer available. By the time I get to the Router UI, the drive is shown and I can access it again. The log files always show this around the time of the error:

@SirDigital I fixed the issue permanetly by pulling the tp-link router out of my house and installing it in the electronic recycling bin (aka trashed it). I now have 3 Linksys EA6900 routers setup with after market firmware (which you can't install 3rd party firmware on a tp-link Acher C1200) that lets me run them in AiMesh mode. Best $90 (yes your read that right, $90 for all 3 on fleebay) that I spent on routers that actually work and I have not had one single issue with the attached WD My Book 3TB drive dropping off at all. It does not look like tp-link has any plans to fix this issue probably because most users out there don't even know about the USB features or care about them so my suggestion to anyone reading this thread is to pass this POS router off to a family member or friend that justs need a WiFi router and does'nt even know what a USB attached drive means. Go get yourself a Asus or Linksys or just about anything else but a tp-link and you should have much better luck with USB attached storage like I have tested and proven that is can indeed work on another brand router.
I wish I had better news to all those searching for a fix and coming across this thread hoping to find a fix from TP-LINK.
