Model: TL-WR841N
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

We are a WISP company and have fitted probably over 200+ TL-WR841N routers over the years for our internet customers. Now they have discontinued that model and our supplier suggested we start using the TL-WR850N instead. In the past if a customer rang our help line to say they had no internet, first question we would ask is "is the internet available LED lit orange or green on your TP-Link router" orange would indicate to us that there was no internet getting to the router, and the problem was with our system. We have been fitting these new models and have noticed that the Internet Available LED (the one that looks light a planet with rings going around it) stays green even when no internet is available. I just done some experiments, with one and it appears that it is not checking that there is actually internet available, just that something is connected to the Ethernet input, where as the WR841 was actually checking for internet availability.

Can someone please suggest a WISP priced router, that gives the read-out we need for our customer help line and self-help PDF.

Hi,

With the internet led shows blue but no internet, please login to the web interface and check whether the router has the valid WAN/internet IP address.

If not, try to reconfigure it; if it has the WAN IP, you can go to DHCP-DHCP settings to change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 to give it a go.

Still the same, the customer can reset it and configure it again.

May it help and have a nice day.
