Deco M4 - WiFi configuration
Hello.
I don't see any advanced WiFi settings for my deco m4 (works in router mode).
1. Does it always works in band steering mode ? It is impossible to separate the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks...
2. I didn't find the option to change the working channel... Is it possible or it always automatic choice of the router ?

Hi,
The band steering is enabled by default, and there is no option to separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. The wifi network will select the wifi channel with less interference automatically.
While there is a plan to add the feature to the Deco series. you can keep an eye on official website.
Good day.

I returned my M4 for the above reasons and ordered the M5.
With the M5 you can isolate the 2.4 from the 5ghz - so for example all my RING devices are on a 2.4 only guest network - this was impossible with the M4.

Having the same issue. It's just connecting everything to 2.4Ghz willy nilly. Not a single thing is on my 5Ghz

The M4 supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. So it is not true that it can only handle 2.4GHz.
While for the laggy issue, you can try to enable QoS for the device to give it a go. Instruction as below https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1601/
Meanwhile, you can connect the main Deco to the modem only and test whether you have the same issue.

How do you know that all the devices have connected to the 2.4GHz only? Any specific symptom?
Note: You can use wifi analyzer and it will list the available wifi networks and the devices connected.
Meanwhile, with main Deco connected to the main modem only, what happens?

I agree that it can handle both. But why does it put all my devices onto 2.4Ghz is my question. And I apologise if I hijacked your thread. I've got the same problem and would love to get to the bottom of it

I have both connections, 2.4 and 5 GHz.... It's not a problem. The only issue is that it is impossible to change channels.... My deco always works on 36 channel and from my tests (with Netgear WiFi analyzer), it the busiest channel around.
