Hello,
I have a small home network with two desktops and a laptop and I want to be able to wirelessly connect my Smart TV plus the occasional guest
with a laptop.

I live in a large house with thick stone walls and one PC, a printer and a Smart TV are downstairs with a PC upstairs and a laptop anywhere and I would
want the router upstairs, so MIMO is probably necessary or is wireless N a type of MIMO ?

I am replacing a Netgear DG834PN which has given very good coverage but this is very old so that I expect my new router to perform much better.
The only concern I really have is the thick stone walls but as my 15 year old DG834PN dealt comfortably with this am I right in assuming that the W8970 or W8980
would be ideal for my requirements ?
If anyone wants to suggest an alternative please do so.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

What is the ADSL line speed?

Another idea could be to keep the Netgear to use only its ADSL modem and add a powerful router like the WDR4900...

Hello,
Thank you for the reply.
My download speed is woeful, around 60 kbs, if I am lucky, but as I live in a tiny hamlet, I am pleased to have
an ADSL connection.
My current router ( netgear dg834pn ) has been excellent for many years and I simply want an up to date router
that will give me decent performance.
I am not all that technical so I am looking for a router that will cope with my needs in my current environment and I
assumed that a new one would perform even better than my old one.
How would I connect the old and the new if I follow your suggestion please ?
Many thanks for your help.
Regards

TP-link offers simply ADSL modems also. For example TD-8840T or TD-8817

Ok here's another question for you - apart from the fact that the 8980 is dual band, is there any difference between the 8980 and the 8970 ?
I don't believe the dual band is any use to me at the moment so the 8970 appears fine just as long as it has all the other features of the 8980.
As I am not the world's expert, I really do appreciate your help.
Regards.

If you don't need dual band, 8970 could be sufficient.
A cheaper solution could be to add a WR1043ND to your Netgear modem...
