VR600 v2 keeps crashing/locking up
Hi,
I currently have a VR600 v2 model connected to a fibre connection.
Previously I have a VR600 v1 device which worked great for about 2 years but then started suffering crashes.
The device would suddenly stop responding to LAN, Wifi & also drop the WAN connection all at the same time, with no way to connect to the device. A power cycle of the device was the only way to recover it. At which point it would be ok for a few hours or maybe a few days before it locked up again. I thought it was just on the way out so recently replaced with a used Vr600 v2 model. But after a few weeks I'm getting the same symptoms on this v2 device. the VR600 just every so often stops responding and requires a power cycle. Very frustrating.
Do you have any ideas what may cause such issues? I have tried factory resets/changing power sockets/ stopping services/disconnecting certain devices etc but it just seems to lockup/crash on it's own with no identifiable trigger. I remember hearing issues over a year or so ago with some tp link routers and mass broadcasts coming from google home & chromecast devices but I understand latest firmware resolved this.
Unfortunately, this is making the device unusable as it's been too unreliable. Would like to get a solution as they are great devices otherwise. I was very happy with the original one I had.
Just tried using the tp-link support contact form but it failed to submit my query, so posting here instead.

@scouk I am facing same problem. router freezes any time and no solution but to power restart. Everything was working untill I turn ON Parrental Control now it's turn off but every day router hangs and need to be power restart (router web not load, internet not working only power reset helps until next day).
Now I turn off Wifi 5GHz and turn on parrent control and see what happens.

Hi,
In my case the problems appeared after turning on the “trafic monitor”, turning it off was an issue as well, every attempt resulted in “error 9004” popup.
Eventually I managed to turn it off, and since then the router works flawlessly.

Daniel

@DBS Interesting one. Just disabled the traffic monitor on mine and so far device portal is responding quickly via web browser.
Had the same problem as you with error 9003 but a quick google discovered that the internet connection must be disconnected first. The voila I was able to stop traffic monitoring and re-connect the internet.
Could be traffic monitor taking up excessive CPU and/or resources.
Will continue to monitor...

@scouk Yep, it sems that turn off monitor traffic gives beter web respnsing now I will check that this was responsible for my other problems with router. I think if it will work OK for 3-4 days it will be good test.
I use monitor because few months ago I had some bug in my server and only high traffic showed me its presece.

Thanks a lot for your valued reply.
First, you can take more time to test its stability.
Meanwhile, may I know who is your internet service provider? And what is the download/upload bandwidth you paid?
When the VR600 works fine, please login to the web interface and take a full screenshot of the status page and send it to us.ht
Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.

I'm having the same problem, it's just completely locks up after approximately 24 hours, if it wasn't for this problem it would be perfect for me. I have now disabled the traffic monitor and I'll see if that happens to stop the unresponsive/locked up VR600.
Just thought I'd chime in so TP can see it's happening to a few more users.
To add, I am with Sky Fibre, I'm signed upto the 52mb package, though I generally hover around the 30-36mb mark. Once the VR600 becomes unresponsive I'm unable to connect to it at all, even via ethernet, a reboot fixes that.

lt has been a month since I turned the traffic monitor off, and I believe I did not have a lockdown since.

Does sound like we have a solution here!
For anyone new reading this:
1) Login to Router
2) Select Advanced menu (at the top)
3) Under System Tools > Traffic Monitor (disable the traffic monitor (Note you may have to disconnect the DSL connection first before it will let you disable it
Did this a while back and never had any blips since. Although the harm was done on my UK FTTC connection and where I was once getting sync speeds of 75Mbit+ It's been sitting aroudn 60Mbit for ages due to the unreliability the router had for a while before finding this solution. The connection may recover after enough time shame as the line is capable of much more the downstram SNR can easily handle lower then 8.4 and stuill be reliable.

My VR600 v2 has the same problems with crashing and locking up. Symptoms are exactly the same: no internet on any device (wlan or lan), no access to admin page, even mobile app Thether cannot connect to the router. The only solution is to reboot the router.
It only happens once a week so not that bad comparing to other users but still annoying. I've never used Traffic Monitor and it's disabled since I bougth the router several months ago.
