I would like to know if it is possible to create a mixed network using m5 and m9 devices?

Hi,

You can create a mixed network with more than one model of Deco.

Below is an instruction you can refer  to:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2248/

May it help and have a nice day.

yes, I have a M9 pair forming my main backbone (because it has a separate wifi channel for the backhaul), and a couple of M5's as satellites.

Dear Iconic, how long have you had this setup working? Would you recommend it?
