Can I use Time machine with Deco M9 plus?
Previously, I used the airport router: airport extreme with a USB port. I connect an external harddisk and it was easy.
How do I select the external harddisk for time machine Apple back up?
Is it better with USB cable or LAN cable?
Many thanks.

I've just set up the very same thing with Deco M5 units, so I'd assume the same will work with M9's. This worked for me:
1. Configure the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility, as follows:
- Base Station: leave name and password unchanged
- Internet: Connect using DHCP
- Wireless: Off
- Network: Off (Bridge Mode)
2. Connect the AirPort Extreme to a Deco unit via Ethernet cable.
This setup allows all my devices to access all the disks (including my Time Machine disk) and printers connected via USB to my AirPort Extreme in exactly the same way as before.

Hello, the Deco M9 plus does not support time machine yet.
For your information, the Deco M9 plus has an extra USB 2.0 port. While there is no software functions added for the USB 2.0 port yet. It's reserved for adding file sharing features in future firmware updates.
However, the USB 2.0 can charge some mobile devices such as phones.
May it help and have a nice day.

Great hybrid solution (both usb and network, interchangeably) here:

@calum-b Worked like a charm with AirPort Time Capsule as well, thank you!

I'm just about to try and add an apple time capsule to my Deco M5 system, thanks for the steps,
Just to check, on the airport utility app what do i chose as the first step:
- Create a new network
- add to an existing network
- replace an existing device
presume i chose one of these and that will then enable me to configure the parameters you mentioned above>?
Thanks,
John
