Thanks Kevin_Z. I have a Pi-hole (using a raspberry) in this static IP 192.168.68.135. And the default LAN IP for the Deco M4 is 192.168.68.1. Are you telling me I can't set up the DNS of my M4 to that IP (192.168.68.135) because it will conflict? I have been able to always do that in my old routers without any problems.

It's not that you won't be able to set the DNS sever (you can), but whenever the Deco M4 is rebooted, the LAN IP range may change.

I've seen it jump to 192.168.0.x, 192.168.3.x and other ranges. Whenever this happens, you Pi will become unreachable for other devices (DHCP), because they're now on another subnet.

This can be hard to fix too, because the app tends to report a connectivity error and won't allow you to change the DNS server to something like 8.8.8.8.

Hi Oarriet,

The WAN DNS or WAN IP cannot be in the same subnet as the LAN IP. It will cause the IP conflict and then the LAN IP will change.

So as a workaround for now, you can setup the WAN DNS into another subnet.

And this issue will be fixed in the new firmware release.

Nice day.

There was another power disruption at my home this morning, and my Decos were rebooted. I noticed that the LAN IP did change again, but with an M5 as the main unit, I was able to change the setting back to my preferred IP range.

This means that the setting is not persistent across reboots. In case you're using a Pi-Hole, this means that after a reboot, clients may still not be able to connect to the internet, because their DNS proxy has become unreachable.

In case this helps anyone: I found that I had to disable 3G/4G on my phone, and select yes when it asked "This network does not have an intenet connection, stay connected?". Only then would the app connect to the Deco, allowing me to change the LAN IP.

TP-Link, It would be great if this setting could be made persistent.

This is a huge issue. When is this firmware release scheduled?

The new firmware that adds a LAN IP setting is now available, at least for me in NL. Installed it and no problems so far.

Some interesting other new features too.

Interesting - I had just checked for updates *literally* last night on my deco and it said I was on the newest version, and just now I checked and it has a big update. Interesting! Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for the update.

Do you know if the 'DNS in the same subnet' issue is also fixed in this release?

Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the DNS issue, but since this new firmware allows you to set the LAN IP range, you should ve able to avoid any conflicts with the WAN IP range.

My Pihole RPi is in the same range as the rest of the LAN, and works without issues.
