Powering off issue TD-W9970

Installed easily yesterday and it worked perfectly. I'm in Canada.
Powered off overnight. When I powered on again this morning I was unable to connect to internet via ethernet or wifi (not laptop, phone, ipad or smart tv)
Did factory reset, another quick set-up. Problem recurs every time modem is powered off. Is this intentional?
I don't want to leave it on 24/7 and the reset is frustrating - is there a setting so that this doesn't happen?
