Hi all,

I've originally been running with the following setup:

TP-Link 2 Port Powerline Adapters to my Router which worked perfectly with no problems for months.

My network has been expanded recently and my router hasn't got enough ports on it as it's only a 4 port router so I decided to get the above 'dumb' switch to enable me to expand my network. Everything works fine apart from the 2 PC's now connected via the Powerline adapters which worked before. So the setup is now:

Main CAT6 Cable from Router to Switch, 2 CAT 6 Cables to Powerline Adapter and then 1 cable to each PC (I know these aren't Gbps adapters, I will upgrade if I can resolve this problem)

I've ran a cable from the PC's directly to the Switch and it works fine with no problem. I've checked the cables which all have come back as good, the adapters are installed in the original locations. I've tried CAT5e and CAT6 cables which haven't resolved the problem.

Any help would greatly appreciated, could it be because I'm using UTP cables when I should maybe using Crossover?

Thanks,

Remove one of the cables from switch to PLC. You are creating a routing loop there.

That worked perfectly! So I now upgraded to TP-Link TL-WPA8630PKIT and on the PC it states a connection of 1Gbps however transfer rates are maxed as if it were 10/100. I've copied the same file from my NAS Server PC to my NAS and it works at the full 1Gpbs.

That's just as much as you can expect to get from AV500 kit. Here's the math: Similar to all other shared-media network transports (like WLAN), payload throughput will be about a third of the available media bandwidth. Now media bandwidth - in a perfect case - is 500 Mbits, typically around 300, and all the way below 100 on awful wiring.

So your reading of about 100 Mbit/s payload throughput sounds quite OK to me.

I upgraded toTP-Link TL-WPA8630PKIT V2 Dual Band Gigabit to enable me to get a Gigabit connection. Everything within my network is now 1Gbps and all transfer ate around 80-100Mbps apart from the 1 PC which is connection to the new TP Link Gigabit Powerline Adapters. Windows states it's a 1Gbps connection yet only transfers at a max of 10Mbps

See above - check the physical connection bandwidth (using tpPLC utility software) and do the math. Something is wrong only if either the connection bandwidth or the payload throughput are much lower than expected.

Ah I see now, I'm only seeing on both devices on the app and it's 400Mbps so I assume the 10/13Mbps is the best I'll get.

So the app is stating a connection of 450Mbps, would that mean I should expect internal transfer rates of around 40Mbps or is that not how it would work?

At 400 Mbit/s bandwidth, you should expect to get about 133 Mbit/s, which translates to about 15 MBytes/s. As it always is with physics and math, please watch your units.
