TL-WA860RE extender with TP-Link router TD-W8980 keeps cutting out

I have a TD-W8980 router in my house which I am very happy with and have had no problems with since installing, except that it doesn't reach far enough.
After installing the extender TL-WA860RE, the setup works, and I can access the internet for a time but after an hour or so the internet will cut out, the router no longer responds when I try to access the admin pages, so I cannot look at the logs to see what error occurred. I resart the router, and it fine, again for about an hour, and then the same thing happens.
I've searched these pages but I haven't seen a solution
