C5400 v2 only half speed on gigabit internet
Hardware Version :
Firmware Version :
ISP :
I have a gigabit internet connection. Speedtest gives mee 900+ Mbps when wired directly to my modem. Tested with laptop and Apple TV 4K.
A brand new Archer C5400 v2 only provides half the speed - with the same devices wired to it. Cat 6 cables in all tests.
Speedtest from the "Thether" app also shows connection speeds around 4-500 Mbps both up and down - I guess this should test the speed between router and modem.
So - is my Archer a defect unit, or are there fixes for this?

@Kevin_Z Thanks for your reaction. Approximately when can we expect the released release version of the firmware? Hope to be able to download it soon from the "Download for Archer C5400 V2" support section. Have a nice day!

I gave up having the full speed on this crappy device. I waited a stabilized and finalized firmware for more then 1 year, I bought a Xiaomi AX3 Pro, I have full Gbps speed and I won the Wifi 6 ax compatibility for half the price!
I will no more buy TP-Link devices.

@Kevin_Z Any chance at seeing a hardware version V1 firmware update to be equal with v2? I have the v1 which I purchased about 2-3 years ago from eBay without knowing it was a v1 and no longer supported. I paid a lot for this router. I just upgraded my internet to an 800 Mbps plan yesterday and seeing this same issue. I'm getting ~400 Mbps down wired and wireless instead of the 800 Mbps I should be seeing.

Hi, may I know the firmware version of your Archer C5400 first? You can refer to this article that we published to check the QoS settings on the router first, then confirm if the speed will be improved:

I'm just chiming in here to say I also have had this problem for a long time and it is annoying (half speed, and having to reboot every week).
I am using the "beta' firmware posted a few pages past. I disabled all QOS and set everything to standard, and I set my speeds to 980/980 (FiOS). Still capped at 500 using Steam as benchmark.

Have you updated to the latest version we updated on #74? You can try to update it first, then reset the C5400 to factory defaults, reconfigure it from scratch to see if the speed will be normal.

@mrmcg Quality of Service shouldn't be an issue for most with a gig connection. Should be enough for everybody to be happy.
I'm looking at getting fiber soon, so good info to have.
