Before I make a purchase, can I clarify something about wired devices

Noob question alert
I've read several reviews that suggest that if I have wired devices plugged into my router, and the first Deco plugged into my router (rather than my modem), then devices that are attached to my router will not be visible to wireless devices attached to the Deco.
Is this true, or is it because the reviewers have not ensured that the wired router devices and the Deco address ranges are in the same subnet, or that they haven't defined a route between subnets?
Supplementary question. If I leave the wireless network enabled my router (with a different SSID to the Deco WiFi), and again all the devices are in the same subnet (or there are routes defined), will devices that attach wirelessly to my router, be visible to devices that are wirelessly connected to the Deco 'mesh'?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. :)
