I've got my router set up as an AP with a VPN eabled through the Network and WAN pages using the PPTP/PPTP Russia protocol and entering the VPN providers name and my name and password.
This obviously means that any internet access through this router goes via the VPN with a speed limit of around 10Mbps.
I expected that if I entered Disabled through the Network/WAN page, access would then be direct via, & only via, my IPS without going via the VPN and the speed limitation would then be that of my ISP ie rather higher than 10Mbps.
This seems not to be the case, I lose the internet connection from this AP when I disable the VPN.
I also attempted to disable PPTP on the security page but this had the same effect.
I can probably tolerate the relatively low throughput with the VPN from this AP, which is connected only to a TV, but unfortunately Netflix will not allow access through the VPN and that's more of a problem and I really don't want to get involved with switches and using one of two alternate routers (one with VPN, one without) in parallel.

How can I set up theTL-WR841N so that I can choose to use the VPN only when required?

When VPN is disabled, do you have another connection set up on the router? How do you connect it to the main router? Should set up a second connection according to your ISP.
