TL-PA9020P firmware update fails
Model :
Hardware Version :
Firmware Version :
ISP :
I own two TL-PA9020P kits, the Australian version. The firmware version is 3.2.4_902192_161024_901. Currently, I use 3 of the 4 adapters, one at my ADSL modem, another one at my PC and the third one at a Steam Link streaming box. The setup generally works, but I do experience some occasional stalls, ie., the streaming slows down/stops for a few seconds. Sometimes the audio stream continues, sometimes it also stalls.
The TP-Link Utility software shows me more than sufficient bandwidth, which is consistantly far above 100 Mbps, typically in the 300-600 Mbps range between the adapters. Since that does not explain the aforementioned stalls, I decided to give a firmware update a try. Turns out that there is a newer version of the firmware, labelled TL-PA9020P KIT(AU) V1 170628. The *.ggl file is named "BCM60500_v3.2.4b_20170628_US_PA9020Pv1.0.ggl", which seems indeed newer than the firmware that is on the adapters. However, when I try to update the firmware using the TP-Link utility, I consistently get a non-sensical error message: "Update failed" with a frowny smiley. No further details are given and so far, I was not able to locate a log file somewhere that had any more information on the cause.
What may play a role is the fact that the back of my adapters state a model identifier/version of TL-PA9020P(AU) Version 3.0. I could not find a version 3 firmware on TP-Link's website. I am not even sure that this device version has anything to do with the firmware version.
Ideas, anyone?
Thanks heaps,
Soeren
