Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.8.5

Hello,

I am in France and use a Deco M5 network in router mode so a double-NAT for now which has never caused any trouble until now but replacing my actual ISP router cannot be envisaged with this ISP.

I plan to switch to another ISP (Bouygues Telecom) where replacing the ISP router is easyer because requirements are using DHCP for IPv4, prefix delegation for IPv6 and, more importent for this topic, VLAN 100 for Internet.

I plan to firstly use again my Deco network behind the Bouygues Telecom box then atempt to replace the router if I can have an ONT from them as it has to be registered on their network to work.

The question is, how will I be able to change the VLAN without having to reset all my network? Because the Deco network won't be connected to Internet when changing settings and even if I change this setting withing being connected to my ISP router, it will have to reboot all the network and will I have to switch from the ISP router to the ONT durring network restart?

What process do you suggest me to follow? The cloud side of Deco makes me a little esitating.

Hi, thanks for posting question.

Currently, Deco M5 network is connected to your ISP router as wireless router mode, right?

If switching to another ISP and connecting to the fiber directly, usually, reset and reconfiguration is necessary.

You may try to change the confiuration parameters directly on Deco, including configuring VLAN ID referring to this guide.

If it does not work, I am afraid you need to reset and set up the whole Deco network with new parameters from ISP.

Best regards.

@Marvin_S Thanks for your fast reply.
Yes, currently Deco M5 network is connected to my ISP router as wireless router mode, selected in plus->operating mode ("mode de fonctionnement" in French).

If I have to reset my Deco network, could I use the backup feature to restore my DHCP assignations and other parameters I set except VLAN? That's the main issue with a system which need Internet to change Internet connection settings, by reading you nothing can be sure.

Hi, thanks for your update.

If you can see Internet Backup feature on Deco app, that should be a new featured added to the model.

But, the function of this feature is not what you understand and you may refer to the guide to know more: How to set up Internet Backup on your Deco

So if resetting Deco network, the users need to reconfigure everything.

Usually, for a new modem/modem router to be replaced, if you set Dynamic IP for the Deco network to get internet access before,  and do not need to change the configuration parameters currently, it should be ok to get the internet access from the modem directly.

But for your situation, as you have to add some new configuration parameters, it can not be guaranteed that it will succeed.

If that does not work, the only way is to reset and reconfigure everything.

Best regards.

  @Marvin_S Thanks for your reply.

I do not refer to internet backup, really to a backup settings feature.

Screenshot Deco Backup feature

It really specifies backing up settings. Strange, I did not find any documentation about this added feature and particularly how securely it is stored on TP-Link servers.

Text is in French, because it is not possible at all to change language only for Deco and I do not really want to change all my phone language to English, sorry.
