I have a question regarding device names in the Deco app and randomized MAC addresses.

Scenario:

*Previously (before changing the password and SSID) a device (let's call it "Thanie-3") belonging to a family member was connected to my Deco Wi-Fi.

*I have since changed my Wi-Fi SSID and password, and that device should no longer have access.

*Recently, I connected a new device (my personal device). This new device uses MAC address randomization.

*In the Deco app's monthly report, a device named "Thanie-3" appeared last month (see Image 1). I need to know if that device is not my sibling's device but instead my device with the same mac address as their previously connected device. This is because they no longer has access to this wifi but their device name still appeared.

*After connecting my new device (apparently with the same randomized mac address), the Deco app now shows a device named "4XN1R6T4U8I306R" in the same february report (Image 2).

Question: Is it possible that my new personal device, using a randomized MAC address that happened to be the same as the "Thanie-3" device, caused the Deco app to retain the old device name ("Thanie-3") and did not change to my device name?

Specifically, I'm wondering if the Deco system, upon seeing a device with a previously used MAC address (even if it's a new physical device due to randomization), might associate it with the old device name stored in its records. I'm trying to determine if the "Thanie-3" listed in the current devices is actually my new device and not my sibling somehow reconnecting without the password. This is because when I connected a second new device with the same mac address again, now the device name changed to "4XN1R6T4U8I3O6R" (name of my new device) even if the "Thanie-3" was in Offline Devices list for the whole month (also have no way of finding out if it was connected during the other weekly reports since those only show the number of devices connected, not the device names).

Take note that the weekly report from February is the same week, then notice the name changes at the lower part of each image.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hi, welcome to the community.

I noticed these two images are from the same weekly report, 2.24-3.2, not the monthly report for February. Did you check the same weekly report at different times?

From my perspective, I think the "Thanie-3" and "4XN1R6T4U8I306R"  in the pictures are the same device as they showed up at the same time and with the same MAC address.

So I was wondering whether you want to say this:

If a new device, "4XN1R6T4U8I306R"(connected in, for example, March), happens to use the same MAC address as one of the old recorded offline devices("Thanie-3" in February), would Deco recognize they were the same and update the March Month report history to use "Thanie-3"  as the device name?

Usually, the MAC address uses hexadecimal notation, and there would be a rare chance that two devices use the same MAC address even via randomized MAC addresses.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

the Thanie-3 device is an unknown device that connected during that week of February

Im trying to find out how the device Thanie-3 connected to my device after I factory resetted my X20 Deco while both SSID and Password are changed and only I know both of these

The new device 4XN1R6T4U8I306R is my own device that connected recently because I checked the mac address and it matches the mac address of the previous Thanie-3 device

Note that the new device 4XN1R6T4U8I306R is a newly purchased device and has not connected to my router yet

While the Thanie-3 device I do not know where it came from

When I connected the new device 4XN1R6T4U8I306R it matches the same mac of Thanie-3

I screenshot the Thanie-3 week a month ago in weekly report

While I screenshot the 4XN1R6T4U8I306R recently in weekly report noticing that the Thanie-3 device is no longer in the past report and was replaced by the new device

Im wondering how this happened and how the Thanie-3 device (not my device) connected to my router even if only I know the device

Thats why im asking if the Thanie-3 device happens to be a cache name which the router did not fully reset because the router was previously used as household wifi and I also used the same account in setting up the Deco X20 as personal wifi instead of household wifi

Im wondering if the Deco account saves names or devices or clients from the previous wifi before I factory reset and newly setup the Deco X20 as personal wifi
