Model: Archer VR2800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 0.3.0 0.9.1 v006c.0 Build 170809 Rel.42095n

Hi

New Archer VR2800 Router is set up and working correctly for internet, wifi access etc.

I've attached a USB drive to one of the slots, and want to use it to transfer files between a Mac and a Win10 PC on my network. At first it didn't appear to either computer, but after a reboot it's now accessible to the Mac - I can see folders, create and read/write them.

On Windows10 however, the router is only appearing as a Media Server, not as a fileserver, so I can't map it as a Network Drive. I've tried with the usual Network Neighbourhood (the router doesn't show up as a device under "Network" in Windows File Explorer). I've tried mapping to \\192.168.1.1 and also htpp://192.168.1.1:8082  but Windows isn't seeing either of those as valid.

Can anyone help please? I just need to map/access folders on the USB (it's NTFS format) from both Mac and PC....

Thanks

Andy

Try using the windows key + r and then enter \\192.168.0.1 in the pop up window.

Thanks for the response. "The network path was not found"

In your router USB settings, be sure the "network neighborhood" is enabled and the 'share mode' is on. Power cycle the router and the PC and try again.

@AndyP24

Hi Andy,

To better assist you I will need to tranfer this post to our Global community.  While most of our products are similar I cannot vouch for the VR2800 as that is not a product sold in the US.  This community "community.tp-link.com/us" was setup exclusively for US customers.  While we will always try to assist in some situations its best to transfer the customer's thread to the Global community "community.tp-link.com/en'

I'll tranfer this post tomorrow or after you reply to give you a chance to review this message and get the link to the Global community.  We always add it as a message in the tranfer but sometimes its missed.

@Carl

Thanks.

*edit - I've rebooted both router and PC before doing this.

Using the Win-R method you suggested:

\\192.168.0.1 gives "Network path not found"

\\192.168.1.1 (which is the router's IP address on my network) gives an error about an obsolete SMB1 protocol which has been depracated by Windows 10 because it's insecure. It says I need the SMB2 protocol to access the resource, which presumably the router doesn't have?

Andy

It is your Windows 10 that does not have SMB2. Google SMB2 for more info.

According to Microsoft, SMB2 is enabled by default in Win10, and when I query it in Powershell (Admin) it returns True, suggesting that it's running.
