Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.3.4 Build 20191012 Rel. 52072

Hi,

Just brought a Deco M5 mesh system and all is working apart from this one issue - maybe thoes here have seen it or cound advise:

I have a plusnet modem/router (wifi radio now disabled) to which the main deco is connected by ethernet.

I want to provide my TV with an ethernet internet connection, since there is no need to load up the wifi network with it and it doesn't move around. Ethernet should give it the best chance to stream at full speed afterall.

Prior to the installation of the decos all was fine, my TV was plugged into the plusnet modem. The network persisted to it (when I turned the TV on from standby it had an internet connection) and I could cast to it from other devices in the house (over plusnet wifi)

Since installing the main deco and plugging the TV into it via ethernet I have discovered that every tiem I turn the TV on from standby there is no internet connection to it. If I unplug its ethernet cable and immediately plug it back in again the internet is back. I also can't cast to the TV if it's connection drops.

No matter, I though, I'll just plug the TV into the plusnet router ethernet port, as it always was. When I do this the internet connection persists again, and the TV has a connection when it wakes from standby. The trouble is, the deco mesh can't see the TV if it's plugged into the router ethernet, so I can't cast to it (I cast Amazon music mainly, but sometimes cast iplayer at it etc.)

So it seems I have these choices:

 1. Plug the TV into the modem to keep its connection live but casting won't work

 2. Plug the TV into the main deco but the internet drops out when in standby for a while

 3. Use wifi for the TV and everything works (but as I said I get reduced speed to the TV then and push a lot of dtat to it of course)

Any thoughts how I can get the TV ethernet to stay live from the main deco?

Thanks,

Mark

@Markr_DecoM5

Hi Mark, you can configure the plusnet modem router as an access point, with DHCP server off and wifi radio off.

Right now, the modem router still works as a regular router even though the wifi function has been disabled, the IP address obtained by the TV is different from the devices which connect to the Deco, that is why the Deco cannot find it and you cannot cast it to other devices. Considering you need wired connections, access point will be a good choice.

Good day.

Hi @Kevin_Z,

Many thanks, disabling DCHP and plugging the TV into the main deco solved the problem.

I've found that the Deco M5's don't work. After a day or two all units show solid red led and WiFi gone. Rebooting everything fixes the problem for a few days. Fix : Returned and brought the Google nest WiFi instead.
