Hi @MagicianThing and all,

The 1.2.13 is not the newer firmware for the Deco M9 plus which has 1.2.11 or below; instead, it is the first firmware for the new batch of Deco M9 plus. Compared to 1.2.11, there is no big difference, no new feature has been added. So you do not have to update the firmware. Or you can try to use the gdpr_update tool to give it a go.

Similarly, 1.3.15 is the first firmware for the new batch of Deco M5, that is why it cannot be detected by the Deco M5 with other firmware versions. You can try to update the firmware manually if you want.

@Kevin_Z

Thx For the information

But Kevin do you have any beta of 1.3.0 to the m9 plus v2?

Or do you know when can we expect the release of 1.3.0 to the v2

@Kevin_Z what do you mean by "new batch"? Do you mean new hardware versions of m5 and m9? I just set up v3 of m5. That's the newest? Are you releasing v3 of m9 too? Thanks.

@Narada

I think Kevin means the newly made Decos coming off the factory line now have the newer firmware.

@Oakmeister thanks that makes sense I guess. TP-Link's versioning system is so confusing! They just published new firmware updates onto the support pages of M5 and M9 with release notes and when we install it they are saying that it's an update only for a new batch and has no changes! The app itself says there is no update available but after a manual update the version number increments! How do I tell the difference between a dummy update and a real one? Why publish an update to the support pages if it's not real and if you don't want people to install it? I'm just lost. None of this makes any sense! :(

@Narada I can only guess that the recent update is so minor its not worth sending the update to thousands of Decos. I'm sure every firmware update comes with a risk of installation failure and devices being bricked. Non technical people then struggling to get their device working again using ethernet cables and GDPR upgrade tools.

At least I know I'm not missing out on any exciting new features now and not worth the hasstle upgrading.

I'm holding out for 1.4 which has recently appeared on the M5's. laugh

@Oakmeister yeah ... you're right again. A very forbearing attitude.   I've been buying tplink for years. A loyal customer. I've always loved their hardware design, software user interface and their ability to embrace new technology trends quickly. I don't mind issues on my own broadband but I've now got my elderly parents onto 5 M9 units in a large four bedroom house and their internet needs to work flawlessly. I want to make sure I understand the versioning system and the release schedule so that I can support my parents' internet as best as I can. Will hold out for the next m9 v2 update via the app just like you then I guess. smiley  Thanks for your responses.
