@karlos121 Yep of you need VPN client functionality then they are limited to L2TP and PPTP with no OpenVPB client functionality at all
Was considering the TP-link AX1500 but when I found out they do not support OpenVPN client service I decided against it
Asus AC router might be older WIFI standard but it supports the VPN services I need now

While the AX Wifi is a "Nice to have" feature

@Kevin_Z I join the above requests. Please make sure indeed VPN client option is added to next firmware update. It is a very valuable option.

I will give you another use case. Currently I live in 2 separate cities, spending 2 weeks in one city apartment and 2 weeks in the other city apartment. I would like sometimes my TV from one city to have access to another city apartment network storage.

I use the archer c9 router.

@Kevin_Z I ordered the Archer A9 from Amazon and couldn't find support for openvpn client.

I join all the above requests to have this feature included in the next firmware.

Can you please confirm that the Openvpn client is coming soon?

OR if you don't want to support it, can you help DDWRT team to be able to develop a DDWRT firmware for that model Archer A9. They may need a donated router to them.

Unfortunately, I'll be returning the router if there is no confirmation from TP-Link that you will support soon the Openvpn client. I don't mind paying few extra bucks to have a Netgear with Openvpn client support.

@odhiambo

i have just received and setup a TP LinK AC2300 and I am dismayed that VPN Client is not included. I previously had an Asus RT-N66U which I had for years with this vital functionality included. I regret buying this router as I was under the impression it is supported.

Please can VPN Client functionality be added otherwise I will be returning this router.

@Kevin_Z I'm extremely disappointed that OpenVPN is not supported on TP Link home products. I've also made a purchase and very happy with its performance so far. However, this is a deal breaker. Is there any roadmap on OpenVPN implementation? Otherwise, this product is going back.

@0xde

May I have the model number of your TP-Link device?

As we have replied earlier that the home routers don't support VPN client settings, it only offers a VPN server (OpenVPN and PPTP). However, it will operate by default as VPN passthrough using IPSec, PPTP, or L2TP.  All you have to do is have the client software installed on the client devices and the VPN be based in one of the 3 mentioned protocols.

If you do need this VPN client settings on the router, you may contact your reseller to return it (if the return window is open).
