Problems updating Archer C9 from ver 4 to ver 5
This is the second Archer C9 router I've installed in recent days. The first router prompted me through an automatic upgrade to ver 5 (firmware 1.2.4 Build 20190403 rel.63869(5553) hardware ArcherC9 v5.0.
However, when I try to manually upgrade the second router (check upgrade says I'm using the latest version) from ver 4 (1.0.1 Build 20170422 rel.63762(4341) hardware ArcherC9 v4.0) to ver 5 the error message is that it is an invalid file type.
This is the file: c9v5_eu-us-jp_up_1-2-2-20180423rel85787.bin
What is wrong with what I'm doing? Is there another file I should be using in Canada? Many thanks. Stephen

Hi Stephen,
The firmware you upgraded need match its hardware, in other word, you can update the firmware for V4 only, the hardware version cannot be upgraded.
The first router is C9 V5, that is why there is an automatic upgrade.
May it help and have a nice day.

Many thanks, Kevin, for your very helpful and prompt reply.
In looking more closely at the two routers I see that one is an Archer C9(US) Ver: 5.0 while the other is an Archer C9(CA) Ver; 4.0.
Is there a difference and is it important between these two routers? If I were to keep only one, then which would you recommend?
Both routers were purchased from the same seller a few days apart.
Cheers, Stephen

Hi,
There is no big difference between the 2 routers, for more details you can refer to the datasheet or the user guide.
While if you were to keep only one, the C9 V5 US with newest hardware version will be a good choice.

Many thanks for the helpful input. There is a recent update to the Ver 5 firmware dated 2019-04-15 Archer C9(US)_V5_190403 to improve the stability and performance of the device. I'm going with US Ver 5. :-)
