App update broke ability to pair with P110's

Model: Tapo P110
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

A few weeks ago the Tapo app did an update which I always do. Then I lost the ability to access one P110 plug that controlled a lamp. So I reset the plug & attempted to set it back up. My phone detected & connected to the plug & I submitted my wifi login info which is correct. But then it sticks to pairing with the device. I tried this multiple times to no avail. I thought the plug must have gone faulty. More recently I did a reorganization of my office & removed a P110 plug used to power on a small tube heater that kept the office warm over winter. I still could turn this on & off no problems. But I needed to change the wifi login, so I reset the device by holding down the power button for 10 seconds as the instructions state. And the same problem is happening to this P110 also. So I bought a new one, in fact a pack of 4 from Amazon P110 & guess what, they refuse to pair, they stick to Pairing your tapo device & that's it.

So something has broken in the software update because its no longer allowing me to set up new & existing P110 plugs. And I know my wifi information is correct, I've checked & double checked it.

However, I have a P100 smart plug I removed from a working lamp in the living room, reset it & the setup was flawless. So the last update did something that broke the P110 plugs ability to set up with the app. So I now have 6 Tapo P110 plugs I'm unable to use.

The current app version on my phone is v 3.9.552.
I cant check the firmware on the P110's because I cant access them. Nor can I see any model Version printed on them. But they're sold in the UK.

Thanks

What error did you receive? Please share a screenshot here.

  • When entering the WiFi password, do NOT use auto-fill.
  • Verify the wifi password in this way: delete the saved wifi on your phone, and reconnect it by manually entering a password. If you unable to reconnect the wifi, the used password is incorrect, please double-check. How to remove existing wireless network profile on Android&iPhone
  • Revert to the original wifi settings if it has been updated recently, or you have upgraded a new router. Many smart home devices have not yet adapted to the latest features and protocols. For example, the Tapo P110 smart plug supports 2.4GHz WiFi with WPA2 encryption, and does not support 6GHz WiFi, mesh, MLO, roaming, or other advanced features.
  • For testing, try to connect the smart plug to a guest or hotspot wifi.

@Wayne-TP Hi ty for the reply. It had nothing to do with the wifi as I use a TP-Link wifi router, a top of the range one so that wasn't the issue. For some reason the suggestion of not using auto fill, as it pops up asking to use the stored wifi login I currently connect to automatically. I cancel this & manually select the wifi network & & then it pops up with the password. However clicking next it still fails, so I tried again, but added 1 extra letter to the password & then deleted it, hit next & it worked, so I did this to all the Tapo P110 plugs & all worked if I added an extra symbol to my wifi password & then delete it.

So, you're guess is as good as mine to why it wouldn't work using the automaitcally selected login info.

Either way, thanks for the help as it resolved the issue. And hopefully if someone else has an issue, this will pop up in their google search :)

Thank you for sharing! Sometimes wrong password might be saved in auto-fill, if the spaces are added, it won't be noticed easily even when making the password visible. That's why we always recommend users not to use auto-fill when it comes to connection failure with the wifi.

Your case is quite unique and doesn't seem right. But I speculate it may still be somewhat related to the auto-fill.
