Solution Why do my Tapo cameras have short video clips stored on the SD card after firmware update?

This Article Applies To:
Tapo C510W V1 & TC41 V1, FW: v1.3.1
Phenomenon Description
After the Tapo C510W and TC41 update to the firmware version 1.3.1 Build 241111 Rel.29618n, the length of the detection video recordings stored on the SD card became shorter than before, only about 20 seconds.
Workaround
1. Why do detection video recordings saved to SD become shorter?
To support compatibility between the camera and hub (H200/H500), we have modified the recording duration for SD card detection events. If no detection activity occurs within 10 seconds after a detection event ends, the recording will stop.
This modification does not change the detection functionality and will not result in missed detection events. Additionally, it will reduce the amount of idle recording time, thus extending the period before the SD card becomes full for storing more detection video recordings.
2. If you experience missed detection events or incomplete recordings after updating to the latest firmware
Please provide the following information for further analysis.
(1) Please go to the Tapo app > camera’s Device Settings > Detection page, and check what detection types are enabled and the sensitivity value.
(2) How frequently do you experience missed detections or incomplete recording events?
(3) Please provide a video showing the reported issue for further analysis.
(4) Send us the camera’s model number and hardware version.

Updated on March 27, 2025.
Hi All,
We have released the new firmware version(1.3.3 Build 250228 Rel.56467n) for the Tapo C510W V1 & TC41 V1, which has optimized the mechanism for saving video recordings on the SD card. The relevant changes include:
1) If the camera stores detection video clips on the inserted SD card, it will continue to record the video clips for 1 minute after a detection event ends.
2) If the camera stores detection video clips on the SD card inserted into the hub(Tapo H200/H500), it will continue to record the video clips for 10 seconds after a detection event ends.
Note: these optimizations do not change the detection functionality and will not result in missed detection events.

Thank you for the link.
I have now logged this and been assigned a ticket TKID250118583 for everyone's reference.
This ticket references the shortened length of recordings after firmware update to 1.3.1. which leads to missed events as the recording finishes prematurely and camera returns to its home position.
Regards,
AJ
